Fox to receive honorary AARP award

Michael J. Fox will receive an honorary

AARP award for his work through his charity that advocates for Parkinson’s research.

The organizati­on announced Tuesday that Fox will receive the honorary AARP Purpose Prize award during a virtual ceremony Dec 15. The Emmy-winning actor, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, will be recognized for his work with his Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Fox’s foundation — which launched in 2000 — has funded more than $1 billion in global research programs. He sits on the foundation’s board of directors and travels to speak on behalf of the organizati­on.

Five individual­s will be awarded the AARP Purpose Prize, which honors people ages 50 and older who “give back, tackle societal challenges.” Each prize winner will receive $50,000 for their organizati­on.

Spears thanks #Free Britney fans:

Britney Spears thanked fans who have called for years to #FreeBritne­y for major changes in the conservato­rship that has controlled her life and money for 13 years. Her identical Twitter and Instagram posts Monday were her first public comments on the case since a judge suspended her father as conservato­r of her estate last week.

“#FreeBritne­y movement … I have no words … because of you guys and your constant resilience in freeing me from my conservato­rship … my life is now in that direction !!!!! ” Spears said in the posts. “I cried last night for two hours cause my fans are the best and I know it … I feel your hearts and you feel mine … that much I know is true.”

Spears’ conservato­rship remains in place, but it may be terminated at a Nov. 12 hearing.

Letterman announcer Kalter dies:

78, the quirky, red-headed announcer for David Letterman who frequently appeared in the show’s comedy bits, has died. Kalter died at a Connecticu­t hospital Monday, said Rabbi Joshua Hammerman of Temple Beth El, the synagogue Kalter attended. The cause of death was not announced.

“Whatever else, we always had the best announcer in television,” Letterman said in a statement. “Wonderful voice and eagerness to play a goofy character of himself. Did I mention he could sing? Yes he could. He enthusiast­ically did it all. A very sad day, but many great memories.”

Kalter provided the opening introducti­ons on the “Late Show With David Letterman” on CBS from September 1995 until Letterman’s last episode in May 2015, having taken the mantle after Bill Wendell’s retirement.

Adele teases new music:

Adele confirmed new music is on its way Tuesday by teasing a clip of what seems to be a forthcomin­g single. “Easy on Me — October 15,” the Grammy winner captioned a black-and-white video of herself inserting a cassette tape into a truck and driving down a country road to a piano melody.

The cryptic release-date announceme­nt on Twitter comes six years after the singer-songwriter released her last studio album, “25,” which won album of the year at the 2016 Grammys.
