Gordon likely to play for Chiefs vs. Bills

-

The Chiefs are adding Josh Gordon to their 53-man roster and the receiver, who was just reinstated by the NFL last week, is expected to play in Sunday night’s AFC title game rematch vs. the Bills.

The Chiefs signed Gordon, who had finished his sixth suspension for violations of NFL policies, to the practice squad last week with the assumption that he would join the active roster when he learned enough of the playbook.

Gordon gives the Chiefs an element they’ve been lacking in their dynamic offense: a big, athletic wide receiver who not only provides a downfield option but help in the red zone. He led the league with 1,646 yards receiving in 2013, when he was an All-Pro with the Browns.

The question is whether Gordon, 30, can avoid the drug issues that have derailed his career.

Baseball: Eddie Robinson, the oldest living former major league player whose more than six decades in professional baseball included being general manager for two teams, died Monday. He was 100. Robinson was the last surviving player from the 1948 World Series champion Indians. That title was part of the first baseman’s 13 big league seasons, during which he played for seven of the eight AL teams that were active during his career and was a four-time All-Star. Robinson was Braves GM from 1972-76, then had that role with the Rangers.

NBA: Pau Gasol retired from basketball Tuesday, ending a career that lasted more than two decades and earned him two NBA titles and a world championship gold with Spain’s national team. Gasol, 41, had been with Spanish club Barcelona since February.

WNBA: Liberty F Michaela Onyenwere was named the rookie of the year, receiving 47 of 49 first-place votes. She led all rookies with 8.6 points per game, 91 field goals and 37 3-pointers, and was second among the group with 94 rebounds.
