Penguins face lawsuit over assault allegation

-

A federal lawsuit filed by a former minor league assistant and his wife accuses the Penguins of negligently retaining a coach who sexually assaulted and harassed her and then retaliating against him for reporting the incident.

Jarrod and Erin Skalde sued the Penguins nearly a year ago in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, alleging former WilkesBarre/Scranton coach Clark Donatelli molested Erin Skalde during an outing on a road trip in 2018. The team is the American Hockey League affiliate of the Penguins and is run by the NHL club.

They also allege that current Wild general manager Bill Guerin, who was GM for WilkesBarre/Scranton and assistant GM for the Penguins at the time, asked Jarrod Skalde to keep the reason for Donatelli’s termination quiet and that the team punished Skalde for reporting the assault and later terminated his position, claiming it was due to pandemic-related cuts. Guerin is also the assistant GM for the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team.

NBA: Trae Young was fined $15,000 by the NBA on Friday for making contact with a referee. The star guard was penalized for his actions with 6:41 left in the second quarter of the Hawks’ 122-111 loss to Washington on Thursday. Young was driving left and bumped by defender Raul Neto, his momentum carrying him across the baseline after he missed the shot but didn’t earn a foul call. As he ran back onto the court, Young bumped his arm into official Ben Taylor, who called him for a technical foul.

NFL: Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan has cleared concussion protocol and will play Sunday against the Colts. Lewan said that he was knocked out before being carted off the field during a win over the Bills on Oct. 18. He said he was told he was snoring and couldn’t move briefly when he woke up. “I’m super lucky it was just what it was,” Lewan said.
