Calvary Christian sends 4 to DI teams

FORT LAUDERDALE — Mistaking Calvary Christian’s practices for a college team’s training would not be a huge mistake. The Eagles have more Division I prospects than all but the most prestigious programs in the nation.

“I’d say it’s like a D-I, high-major practices,” senior Gregg Glenn said. “Everybody on my team is great.”

Four of those stars were on stage together Wednesday, signing their National Letters of Intent. Glenn signed with the Michigan Wolverines, forward Brenen Lorient signed with Florida Atlantic and twin brothers Taylor and Tyler Hendricks signed with Central Florida.

“It feels good,” Tyler Hendricks said. “I always wished for this moment and always prayed for it, and it finally came true.”

Glenn has been with the Eagles the longest, playing for Calvary Christian since eighth grade. The four-star prospect is the No. 19 power forward in his class, according to 247Sports’ composite ranking. He’s a two-time Sun Sentinel Fab Five pick, and he was an All-County first-team pick last year. He averaged 14 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last year.

Glenn picked Michigan over offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Miami, among others.

“It felt great,” Glenn said. “I’m ready to get started. Today’s a big day for me. I’m grateful to be alive today, grateful to sign this paper and become a Michigan Wolverine.”

The Hendricks brothers will travel north to Orlando to play for UCF. Taylor Hendricks was a Fab Five pick and an All-County first-team pick as a junior. He is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 14 power forward in the nation. He averaged 14.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Tyler Hendricks, who plays shooting guard, averaged 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds a game last season.

“Just (looking forward to) the atmosphere and building a relationship with new players,” Taylor Hendricks said. “It’s like a whole new thing. You’re pretty much an adult now, on your own.”

Lorient is a new member of the Eagles’ team, transferring from Ocala Forest. While at Forest, he was named the Ocala Star-Banner’s boys basketball player of the year. He averaged 16.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Lorient is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 25 power forward in the 2022 class.

Lorient will stay in South Florida, picking FAU over offers from Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia State and Ilinois-Chicago, among others.
