Hurricanes lose Brinson, Miller to transfer portal

- By Adam Lichtenstein

More players are leaving Coral Gables as the exodus from the Hurricanes program grows.

UM wide receiver Romello Brinson announced on social media his plans to enter the transfer portal. Defensive lineman Jordan Miller has also entered the transfer portal, according to ESPN.

They joined running back Jaylan Knighton in entering the portal Tuesday. So far 14 players have said they want to transfer for next season.

“I want to thank everyone in the Miami program for everything they’ve done up to this point,” Brinson wrote on his Twitter account. “For helping me academically and athletically, from the coaching staff, strength staff, all the way down to the trainers.”

Miller, a fifth-year redshirt junior, is the longer-tenured Hurricane of those two players, spending five seasons at UM. He played in 48 games and had 60 tackles, three sacks and 11 tackles for a loss.

This season Miller had 18 tackles, three tackles for a loss and one sack. He played 197 defensive snaps, and Pro Football Focus gave him a 69.6 defensive grade.

With Miller departing, the Hurricanes’ defensive line gets thinner.

Four defensive linemen are transferring (Allan Haye Jr., Darrell Jackson Jr. and Elijah Roberts are the other three), and Mitchell Agude and Antonio Moultrie are leaving due to graduation. Miller, Haye, Jackson and Moultrie are defensive tackles.

Brinson, a sophomore and Miami Northwestern alum, leaves after two years with Miami. He had seven catches for 99 yards on 12 targets this season. He played 194 offensive snaps this season.

Brinson , who was a fourstar prospect coming out of high school, is the second Miami wide receiver to enter the portal, joining Key’Shawn Smith.
