- BY RON HOWELL Sports Editor

HIGHLAND — Wednesday’s 46-0 shutout win over Robert Lee put Highland’s up-and-down year back on track for a postseason bid after its previous game with Sterling City was stopped due to COVID.

Highland, which is now 1-1 in district and 5-3 overall, ended a three-game losing streak while dropping Robert Lee to 1-1, 2-5.

The Hornets’ next game is Monday when they go to Bronte. They will now play their game at No. 2-ranked Sterling City to wrap up the regular season on Oct. 31.

Highland, which won its first four games, needed just three quarters to beat Robert Lee by six-man football’s 45-point mercy rule.

It was 16-0 at the end of the first period and 40-0 at the half. The Hornets ended the game with just 49 seconds left in the third period on a Seth Garrett 41-yard pass to Jacob Hamilton.

That touchdown closed out a superb passing night for Garrett, who had 312 yards passing on just 12 attempts. He completed nine and threw for six scores — two to Hamilton and Kort

Sargeant and one to Hunter Heady and Ruger Duniven.

Hamilton had four receptions for 130 yards with TDs of 38 and 41 yards while Sargeant had three catches for 105 yards with TDs covering 75 and 24 yards.

Heady had a 39-yard TD and Duniven a 38-yarder in the game. The Hornets held Robert Lee to just 61 total yards in the contest.

Highland’s leading defenders were Hamilton (five tackles, one assist), Duniven (three tackles, four assists), Garrett (two tackles, four assists) and Bryson Magee (two tackles, two assists). The Hornets did not have a turnover against the Steers.
