Loboes top Pecos to delay No. 1 seed for Sweetwater

- BY RON HOWELL Sports Editor Local and area sports

Sweetwater will have to beat Monahans for the No. 1 seed in District 1-4A, D-II after the Loboes’ 35-19 win over Pecos on Friday.

Sweetwater brings a 3-0 into this week’s game while Monahans is 2-1.

Both of the teams have locked up playoff berths. Sweetwater will be the top seed if the Mustangs defeat Monahans, but a loss would create a three-way tie that includes Greenwood at 3-1 and a tiebreaker point system would decide seeding.

Sweetwater won last season over Monahans 66-40 at the Bowl and hosts this year’s game at 7 p.m.

The 4A, D-II playoffs are scheduled to start with bidistrict games Nov. 12-14 with title games held during the week of Dec. 16-19.

Roscoe got its only points on Kolten Hope’s 2-yard TD run in the first quarter.

The Plowboys must win at least one of their last two games — they will also play at Crosbyton on Nov. 2 — to have a shot at a playoff spot out of District 5-2A, D-II. Hamlin leads at 3-0 after a forfeit win over Crosbyton.
