Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
Texas has been the top producing state for renewable energy, producing enough energy to power the equivalent of millions of homes each year. The blazing Texas sun delivers the rays necessary to produce solar energy at scale. Texas was made for renewable energy, and we all benefit from its implementation.
At my workplace, Reloj del Sol Wind Farm in Zapata County, we see the impact of renewable energy development in Texas. Since starting operations, Reloj del Sol Wind Farm has generated enough energy to power 45,000 Texan homes and provides significant economic benefits to the community in the form of landowner payments, job creation, and annual community investment for generations to come.
Clean energy does more than help fight against climate change; it also brings an economic boost to our state in the form of good-paying, reliable jobs. EDP Renewables alone has employed more than 1,300 construction workers for its Texas projects and provides more than 500 permanent positions at its Texas wind farms and solar parks as well as its company headquarters in Houston. Job creation isn’t just a number; it is food on families’ tables and money in Texans’ pockets—and in this economy, that’s more important than ever. My family and I are a perfect example of the economic benefit of clean energy.

Dear Editor,
Women are making history in the renewable energy industry every day. According to the 19th News, women currently make up 57.8% of the national workforce, and the quickly expanding renewable energy industry is creating job opportunities for women. As a lifelong Hoosier, I have seen the industry grow quickly, and this progress is empowering more women to power our communities than ever before.
I joined the renewable energy industry seven years ago at EDP Renewables North America’s (EDPR NA) local wind farm, Headwater I. In my new role as the Operations Manager of EDPR NA’s Riverstart Solar project in Winchester, I have been able to enjoy the farm’s positive impacts along with my neighbors. I am proud to work alongside renewable energy experts who create programs to promote equal opportunities for women through development and representation.
Women bring a unique perspective to the workforce, benefiting the renewable energy industry. As Indiana begins to see a fast progression of solar energy, doors are opening for more people, especially women, to play a critical role in our bustling energy grid.
