City Council Approves Demolition of Dilapidate­d Structures; Awards Bids

The City Council of the City of Sweetwater, met in regular session on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chambers of the City Hall, 200 E. 4th Street, Sweetwater .Pursuant to Section 551.071 of the Texas Government Code, the City of Sweetwater reserves the right to consult in closed session with its attorney to receive legal advice regarding a matter in which the duty of the attorney to the government­al body under the Texas Disciplina­ry Rules of Profession­al Conduct of the State Bar of Texas clearly conflicts with this chapter, to include any item listed on this agenda.

Councilman Peek lead the Council in the invocation and Councilman Baker lead the meeting in the pledges.

City Council approved the minutes for meeting held on June 14, 2022, and minutes for Special Meeting held on June 30, 2022 without changes. Public Comments and Receipt of Petitions: [At this time, anyone will be allowed to speak on any matter, other than personnel matters or matters under litigation, for length of time not to exceed three minutes. No Council/Board discussion or action may take place on a matter until such matter has been placed on an agenda and posted in accordance with law -GC, 551.042.] There were no instances of public input so that agenda item was closed. The Council approved the Quarterly Investment Report for the quarter ended June 30, 2022.

Insurance proposals for health, dental and life benefits for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 were received by the council and staff will work with the broker of record to evaluate proposal and present recommenda­tions at August 9 Council meeting. No action is required.

City Council approved Final Acceptance and Release of Retainage Funds for the Clearwell Rehabilita­tion Project at the Water Treatment Plant. City Council awarded bids for Grade 4 (62) round rock, CRS-2, CRS 2-P and Fog Seal to be used for the Fiscal Year 2022 streets seal coating project.

City Council approved a Resolution to amend Central Rate Schedule for various fees charged by the City of Sweetwater. There would be a $50 fee to manage water flow after hours and weekends. This is just for use of the park and the water slide. The Resolution was read into the record. Owner will then be given 35 days and if nothing is done, abatement will commence by the city. In backyard of a property and associated debris. No one wished to speak on behalf of the property.

Owner will then be given 35 days and if nothing is done, abatement will commence by the city. No one wished to speak on behalf of the property.

The City Manager then gave his report. First up, the SNAP –Fan Drive. An ongoing fan drive to donate fans or cash to SNAP for area seniors.

The City of Sweetwater was honored with the Award of Funding from the Area Agency on Aging Nutrition Program for $107,829 to go towards additional meals. Paperless Utility Billing is an option offered online.

The City will also be holding a meet and greet and public swearing-in ceremony with new Fire Chief Dewey Coy. The date for this event is to be determined.

The City Council requested and was granted an adjournmen­t.
