MALCOLM “BUTCH” CLELL MURRAY

On the night of July 30, 2022, Butch passed away peacefully of natural causes in his home at Mount Pleasant, TX. He was 82 years old.

Butch Murray was born in Amarillo, TX on September 17, 1939. He was the third child, and first son of Mary (Gundel) Murray and Asa Clell Murray.

Butch served his country as a Staff Sergeant E-5 in the United States Air Force from 1957 - 1968. He married his wife, Judy (Graston) Murray, in November of 1960, and together they raised five children. In 1973 they moved to Maryneal, TX, and lived there until 2019. He served on Maryneal’s Volunteer Fire Department and drove a truck for several years, under the call sign Silver Eagle. Later, he would take over as Shop Foreman for Dixie Petrol Chemical. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was dearly loved by his family and friends for his compassion, helpfulnes­s, and his great sense of humor.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Mary, and his sister Dolores.

Butch is survived by his sister, Bettye Musser of Fayettevil­le, AR; his wife of 61 years, Judy Murray of Mount Pleasant, TX; his five children: Sabra Putnam of Rotan, TX; Clell Murray of Royse City, TX; Darold Murray of Jasper, TX; Roy Murray of Mount Pleasant, TX; and Selina Highlen of Mount Pleasant, TX; 14 grandchild­ren: Tara Garrison, Scotty Hazard, Cody Hazard, Justin Sliva, Jenna Patterson, Jackie Bagget, Felica Rawls, Stacie Murray, Kelsey Mettlen, Dakota Murray, Steven Murray, Jessica Stamper, Erica Cruz, Samuel Murray; and 24 great grandchild­ren.

A small service was held at Old Union Missionary Baptist Church, and his ashes were spread at his home in Mount Pleasant.
