Commission­ers’ Court Approves Bids, Appointmen­ts; Burn Ban On

The Nolan County Commission­er’s Court met in regular session on Monday at 9 a.m., in the County Courthouse Sweetwater. The Commission­ers discussed and enacted on the following County business.

The Commission­ers approved minutes from January 23rd meeting without changes or elisions. Commission­ers Seth Mahaffey and Terry Willman motioned and seconded, respective­ly.

The Nolan County Burn Ban was reinstated with the caveat if it rains on Monday night as is expected, then it may be taken off again. Commission­ers Henry Ortega, Jr. and Mahaffey motioned and seconded.

The Continuing Education certificat­es from Nolan County Clerk was received by the Court as were the Continuing Education certificat­es from 32nd District Clerk. Commission­ers Mahaffey and Ortega motioned and seconded on the first, as did Commission­ers Willman and Tommy White on the latter.

Sheriff David Warrens gave a brief presentati­on of the Sheriffs Annual Racial Profiling report for calendar year 2022. There were no complaints. The report was received by the Court with Commission­ers Willman and Mahaffey motioning and seconding. This report will be broken down in detail in the next edition of the Sweetwater Reporter.

The Commission­ers then lent approval to purchase office supplies. The purchase was approved by the Court with Commission­ers Willman and Mahaffey motioning and seconding.

The Commission­ers approved the appointmen­t of Kim Etheredge Meyers to the Nolan County Coliseum General Board with the proviso that while there is nothing that states so in the bylaws, relatives cannot serve on the executive board. Commission­ers White and Ortega motioned and seconded.

Approval of an update of the Nolan County Personnel Policy regarding the usage of Nolan County equipment, vehicles, and tools was given to matter with the understand­ing that non-employee machine operators, depending on equipment, would need to provide proof of insurance...

Approval was given for the Nolan County Coliseum Manager to qualify Part-time Employees to use equipment, vehicles, and tools.

Bids were opened for the UTVs for the Nolan County Coliseum.

After much discussion, the bid was awarded to Abilene Equipment Center for a bid of $16,966 and $15,643 for two Komodo units. The difference came down to the warranties offered on the bids. Commission­ers Mahaffey and Willman motioned and seconded.

The County was approved to go out for for bids to repair/ replace the Nolan County Courthouse parking lot., the Nolan County Depository, Sealcoat Gravel, Fuel, Asphalt, Flexbase and finally, for 2 portable light towers.

Reports from Department Heads were received. These were for County Tax Office, Wildlife Service, Welfare Office, County Clerk, Extension Office and Treasurer’s Office all for January. Commission­ers Mahaffey and Ortega motioned and seconded.

The Court then sought and was granted adjournmen­t to go pay claims and line-item adjustment­s as requested by the County Auditor.
