Three area teams set for the postseason; Roscoe, Highland girls win their seeding games
Three area teams have punched their playoff ticket and two start Tuesday with bi-district contests.
The Roscoe girls defeated Coleman, 51-36, and Miles, 44-31, to determine seeding and take the No. 1 spot in District 8-2A. The teams ended the regular season in a three-way tie for the lead with 8-2 records. Roscoe was district champion for the second year in a row.
The Plowgirls’ playoff opponent will be Water Valley, the No. 4 team in District 7-2A.
The game will be played in Colorado City and is tentatively set for 7:45 p.m.
The Plowgirls started out strong in their two seeding games, and it allowed them to build double-digit halftime margins each time although in Friday’s game vs. Miles the lead was trimmed to five at the end of three periods until a strong finish iced the win.
Roscoe, which has a fivegame win streak, will enter Tuesday’s playoff contest with a 28-6 record.
The Highland girls defeated Westbrook, 44-42, to decide the No. 2 and No. 3 playoff seeds out of District 14-1A. The Lady Hornets earned the No. 2 seed after the two teams both finished 7-3, three games behind Hermleigh, to end the regular season last Tuesday.
The Lady Hornets’ playoff opponent will be May, the No. 3 team out of District 13-1A.
Tuesday’s game will be played in Winters with the tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m.
A bad start put the Lady Hornets down by 14 points, 22-8, after the first quarter and by 13, 26-13, at halftime but they cut it to just four points, 32-28, entering the fourth quarter.
Highland then won the fourth quarter 16-10 to eke out a very close victory.
Highland, ranked No. 23 in Class 1A, will enter its playoff game Tuesday with a 27-7 record.
The Roscoe boys were defeated by Coleman, 51-43, on Friday but still qualified as the No. 4 seed in District 8-2A. The Plowboys (4-5) secured their seed because Colorado City also defeated 2-7 Winters. Roscoe had won three straight games before losing Friday.
The Plowboys’ playoff foe will be Reagan County, the No. 1 team out of District 7-2A, with other details not yet available. This Tuesday Roscoe will host Miles in its regular season finale.
The Plowboys held a twopoint lead, 19-17, at halftime vs. Coleman (8-1) and were up 33-28 after three periods, but the Bluecats pulled out the win with a 23-10 run in the fourth quarter.
