Lady Stangs win four games at Celina’s three-day tournament

Sweetwater won four of its five softball games at the Celina tournament that had two games each Thursday and Friday and ended with one Saturday.

Sweetwater won 6-5 over Mount Pleasant and 9-3 vs. Celina in its two games on Thursday, then beat Caddo Mills 7-6 to start Friday’s action until losing 6-0 later in the day. Sweetwater beat Ponder 10-5 in its finale.

Sweetwater won its opener vs. Mount Pleasant des-pite being out-hit 11-6 and trailing 4-2 and 5-4. Shelby Dent and Mabry Weaver each had two RBIs. Weaver hit a triple and Jenika Fuentes doubled, and Kendall Daniel had two hits and Dent and Bethanee Rodriguez one. Rebecca Castillo threw three innings and Mikayla Ashley two.

There were 10 hits in the four-inning win over Celina, led by Weaver, Dent and Daniel with two apiece.

In addition, Daniel and Fuentes scored twice with Daniel getting three RBIs and Laryssa Garcia two.

Weaver, Dent, Fuentes and Hanna Vera had one RBI. Weaver, Dent, Vera, Castillo and Rodriguez also scored and Fuentes pitched all four innings.

Rodriguez and Daniel had two RBIs against Caddo Mills and Rodriguez and Marissa Garcia had two hits. Also getting a hit were Castillo and Daniel while Garcia, Rodriguez, Castillo, Daniel, Ashley, Hanna Vera and Alyssa Aguilar scored runs. Rodriguez and Daniel each had a double and Marissa Garcia had an RBI, while Ashley pitched.

Castillo, Weaver and Dent had two RBI vs. Ponder and Garcia, Daniel and Kaitlin Vera one. Daniel and Rodriguez both scored twice and Castillo, Weaver, Dent, Garcia, Vera and Fuentes once. Castillo (double) had two hits and Weaver, Dent, Garcia and Daniel one.

Castillo pitched all three innings for Sweetwater.
