SHS track medals at Hamlin

HAMLIN — Several track athletes at Sweetwater High School won medals this past week at a meet in Hamlin.

Eight of the athletes won at least one first-place medal Saturday, with three of them winning at least two.

Damarrius Walker had top-three finishes in five events with three victories. Walker was first in the high jump (6-4), long jump (212) and triple jump (40-5), second in the 110 hurdles (16.63) and third in the 300 hurdles (46.95) for 44 points. Malik Brown took wins in both hurdles, running the 110 in 16.48 and the 300 in 44.12.

For the Sweetwater girls Toreyna Saddler was first in the shot put (41-4 1/2) and discus (109-9), and Aunisti Griffin won the 100 dash with a time of 12.87.

Sweetwater also teamed up Jadyn Forbes, Jace Adames, Roman Camacho and Xavier Guerrero to win the 1600 boys relay with a time of 3:37.2. Forbes, Chris Avila, Guerrero and Adames ran on the 800 relay that was second (1:33.61) and as individual­s, Forbes placed third in the 100 dash (11.74) and Adames placed third in the 200 dash (22.94).

For the Sweetwater girls Griffin was also third in the 200 (27.57) and high jump (4-9) and Natalie Craver was second in the pole vault with a leap of 6-6.

For the JV boys, Guerrero was second in the pole vault (7-0) and Alijah Iriarte was third (6-6); Brock Teel was sixth in the shot (299); Amarie Arevalo, Uriah Aguilar-Rivera, Braxton Bartee and Talan Lujan ran on the third place 800 relay (1:4021); and Lujan, Aguilar-Rivera, Blaine Bohall and Bartee ran on the 1600 relay that was fourth with a time of 4:00. Sweetwater competes at Merkel’s meet on Thursday.
