Exchange Student

-

Schmelter comes to Sweetwater via ASSE, a non-profit international student exchange organization.

SISD was lauded for their efforts in working with the organization. Each of the teachers chosen by Schmelter received a recognition award certificate from the Atlanta Office of the student exchange organization.

The organization is seeking host families for the upcoming semester or school year beginning August 2023. Hosts are asked to select a student that fits well with your family. They range in ages from 15-18 and arrive with their own insurance coverage and spending money. Please consider opening your home and your heart to a young person from overseas. It will be a lifechanging experience for your whole family.

Teachers / School Administrators who refer a new host family will receive $250. There’s no limit on the number of referrals. Learn more at host.asse.com

Second only to the host family, schools are the backbone of a positive exchange student experience. Schmelter had the following to say about the teachers she chose:

“Coach Jose Flores: Coach Flores is amazing because of the attitude he always brings on the day. He is always motivated and motivates others.

Coach Sharp: I appreciate Coach Sharp because of how he took me in the soccer team. I came late in the middle of the season, yet he took me in the soccer team real great. I really appreciate that.

Coach Lacy Gregory: Coach Gregory is always motivating and in such a good mood. She always brings people to laugh after a hard workout.

Coach Casey Thompson: I appreciate Coach Thompson of how he treated us exchange students in the track team. We were really not the best, in fact I hated running before I came to the US. But Coach Thompson made track real fun through his motivating way.

Coach Lillian Miller: I appreciate Coach Miller for her kindness. Her kindness to the other exchange students (she took them in after changing host families) and her kindness to me in athletics.”
