BROADWAY BAPTIST CHURCH

Happy/Blessed New Year!

If you had the choice between a “happy New Year” or a “Cursed New Year,” which would you choose? I suppose most of us would choose the “happy” one, right? I say most of us, because there are always a few outliers! In fact, I don’t believe I have ever heard anyone say to me, “I hope you have a Cursed New Year,” have you? I know I’ve never wished THAT on anyone. No, most of us leave stores, end conversations, and tell those around us “Happy New Year” this time of year.

So, when Moses was giving his final message to the Israelites, he presented them with a choice. He said in Deuteronomy 30:19, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, BLESSING AND CURSING: therefore, CHOOSE LIFE, that both thou and thy seed may live.” His counsel was for them to choose to be blessed. And, may I say, that the Lord’s blessing leads us to happiness?

For this to happen, the instruction that follows is paramount. Verse 20 says, “That thou may love the LORD thy God, and that thou may obey His voice, and that thou may cleave to Him: for He is thy life, and the length of thy days.”

Ah, so that’s it. You see, the key for you and me to having a “Happy New Year” is “loving the Lord, obeying His voice/word, and staying close to Him.” Is this the structure of our lives right now?

Let me urge you as you are evaluating the past year and setting some goals for 2024 to ponder these three things. Are we loving the LORD as we should? Are we obeying His voice through His word (the Bible) and the Holy Spirit as we should? And, are we cleaving, or adhering ourselves to Him every day? If we can answer these questions “yes,” a Happy New Year is assured. If the answer is “no,” well

FAITH HARVEST FULL GOSPEL CHURCH

400 Alamo Street Sweetwater

The seasons are changing and change can be a good thing, especially if you are changing for the good. Change you say, no way not me.

Most of us don’t like change but change can be good if it is positive steps forward.

Many are stuck in discouraging and dead cycles. I believe that Jesus still wants to rescue everyone out of them.

I can say from my own personal experience that Jesus makes everything new and he also refreshes our souls. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

So if you are stuck in discouraging cycle I would encourage you to cry out to Jesus for help. Ask him to show you new things to do for him. I believe you will feel a new well and a freshness as Jesus beings to make things new in your life. May the love, joy, and peace of God be in your life today and everyday as you learn to trust him more.

Trinity Baptist Church invites you to join as we welcome the approaching new year for our New Year’s Eve service on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. There will be no Sunday School and no nursery this week.
