BROADWAY BAPTIST CHURCH

Consider Your Ways

Just read the short two-chapter OT book in the Bible named for its author; Haggai. Written as one of the final OT books before what is known as the 400 years of silence, its address is as relevant as ever.

Haggai describes the lives of the Jews who had returned to Jerusalem after 70 years of Babylonian captivity. Job one upon returning; rebuilding the Temple Nebuchadnezzar had torn down and burned. They even had permission to rebuild, and the materials needed, courtesy of Cyrus, the Persian king.

Yet, according to the words of Haggai, the returning Jews got distracted from task number one. Instead of getting the Temple built, they turned their attention on themselves. Through building their own homes and neighborhoods, and getting their farms and cities established, they forgot job number one.

You see, the Temple in Jerusalem represented the presence of God with His people on earth. So, by building for themselves, they were disregarding His presence in their endeavors to re-settle Jerusalem. The consequences of not putting God first were noted by Haggai. He said that “they sowed, but brought in little, they ate and drank, yet were never satisfied, put on clothes, but never found warmth, and made money, only to put it in a bag with holes!”

I ask this simple question: Can you relate? The instruction from Haggai was simple. CONSIDER YOUR WAYS! Let me encourage you to join me in evaluating your life right now. Are you finding contentment and joy, satisfaction and purpose in life? Or, do you feel empty, like everything you do is going into a bag with a hole in the bottom? Let’s CONSIDER OUR WAYS! Let’s make sure we are putting God first!

FAITH HARVEST FULL GOSPEL CHURCH

The seasons are changing and change can be a good thing, especially if you are changing for the good. Change you say, no way not me.

Most of us don’t like change but change can be good if it is positive steps forward.

Many are stuck in discouraging and dead cycles. I believe that Jesus still wants to rescue everyone out of them.

I can say from my own personal experience that Jesus makes everything new and he also refreshes our souls. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. So if you are stuck in discouraging cycle I would encourage you to cry out to

Jesus for help. Ask him to show you new things to do for him. I believe you will feel a new well and a freshness as Jesus beings to make things new in your life. May the love, joy, and peace of God be in your life today and everyday as you learn to trust him more.

Following our services this Sunday, we will have our First Sunday Lunch in the Family Life Center.

Our Wednesday activities start with our men’s group, which will meet at 6:45 a.m. in the Family Life Center, and then at 10:30 a.m. we will have our weekly prayer meeting. Our Wednesday night activities begin at 6 p.m. with a meal for our students with their parents. All the kids split up into their groups following the meal at 6:30. Our youth group, grades 6-12, will go upstairs to the youth room at that time to meet with their leaders for their own activities.
