Roscoe teams chill Winters

-

ROSCOE — Roscoe’s first-place boys (7-0 in district) beat Winters 42-34 on Friday to maintain a onegame lead, and the girls tied Coleman for second place by winning 43-22 over Winters in their 8-2A contest.

The playoffs are a certainty for both, and the girls go first after wrapping up their regular season on Tuesday at Bangs.

The Plowgirls (6-3) and Coleman trail Miles by two games. Miles (8-1) got the No. 1 berth by beating Coleman on Friday.

Coleman has the edge for the No. 2 berth if it finishes tied with Roscoe, since the Bluekatts have won both of their head-to-head district games against the Plowgirls.

The boys used a secondhalf rally to defeat Winters (2-5), which led 10-9 after one quarter and 20-15 at halftime. Roscoe led 30-25 after three periods and won the fourth quarter 12-9.

Parker Gleaton was the Plowboys’ leading scorer with 14 points and Jax Watts contributed 11 points on Friday.

Roscoe leads in the 8-2A race by a game over Miles (6-1) with three left. Miles won 47-31 against Coleman on Friday.

Roscoe beat Miles in their first meeting, 49-46, and the teams meet again to end the regular season at Miles on Feb. 13, a game that will most likely decide who wins the District 8-2A title.

The girls led Friday by one, 7-6, entering the second period but dominated after that with a 36-16 run.

Zoey Welch finished as the Plowgirls’ leading scorer with 16 points and Kaidy Ornelas and Bailey Deolloz both tossed in 10 points.

Ornelas also had six steals to lead the team while Deolloz and Ava Burrell each had six rebounds and Kelbi Parks five. Roscoe, Miles and Coleman tied for first in 8-2A until Roscoe won a seeding tourney a year ago.
