Roscoe teams, Highland girls victorious

The Roscoe boys and girls beat Bangs on Tuesday in a District 8-2A doublehead­er, and the Highland girls won in their final 14-1A regular season game while the boys lost to Abilene TLCA.

The Blackwell boys and girls lost to Robert Lee in District 11-1A.

Roscoe’s teams went to Bangs Tuesday for their last doublehead­er and collected a pair of victories.

In the opener, the playoffbou­nd Plowgirls completed their regular season with a 46-29 win and in the nightcap, the Plowboys (8-0) remained in first place with a 50-31 win.

The Roscoe girls (7-3) got 22 points from Kaidy Ornelas and will be the No. 3 seed from District 8-2A in the basketball playoffs.

Roscoe’s opponent in the bi-district round will be Ozona at 5 p.m. Monday at San Angelo Lake View.

The Plowgirls tied with Coleman for the second best record in their district, but Coleman won both of their district contests.

The boys kept a slim lead over Miles (7-1) with two games left with their win over Bangs, which fell to 0-8. All but 11 of the points came from two players — Jace Arnwine (21 points) and Parker Gleaton, who finished with 18. The Plowboys will host Coleman on Friday and go to Miles to end the regular season.

The Highland girls (6-4) are the No. 3 seed in 14-1A and they will face May in the bi-district playoffs next Tuesday with the tipoff set for either 7 or 8 p.m. at Clyde High School.

The Lady Hornets hosted Abilene TLCA on Tuesday and won, 50-23, with Kaelyn Bankhead scoring 24 points to pace the win.

Amri DeLoera was also in double figures for Highland with 10 points.

The Highland boys (2-6) lost to Abilene TLCA, 47-44, in overtime in their game on Tuesday.

Elliott Eaker led Highland with 18 points, six of them in overtime after a 38-38 tie at the end of regulation.

Highland trailed 20-13 at halftime but was tied 25-25 at the end of three quarters after a 12-5 run that was led by Eaker with 10 points.

Highland will play its last home game Friday against Trent, before ending its season at Ira next week.

The Blackwell girls (4-6) lost to Robert Lee, 35-20, on Tuesday to miss out on the playoffs despite a 23-10 overall record. The Lady Hornetes were one of four teams in the district with 21 or more wins. Also, the Blackwell boys (0-8) lost their game to Robert Lee by a final score of 57-14.
