Carey Lane Redden 72, of Sweetwater passed away Monday, February 19, 2024 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiatin­g. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Carey was born October 6, 1951 in Sweetwater to the late Vergil Randolph and Sula Faye (Rushing) Redden. He married Janet McVay on August 17, 1979 in Sweetwater. Carey is survived by his wife Janet Redden of Sweetwater; daughters Annie Miles and husband Matt and Abbie Redden both of Sweetwater; grandchild­ren Joseph Redden, Marisa Johnson and fiancé Seth, Cade Johnson, Cash Miles and Case Miles all of Sweetwater; brother Mike Redden and wife Gail of Abilene; sisters Latria Sims of Sweetwater, Darla Reed and husband Randy of Sulphur Springs; sisters in law Suzie Bischof of St. Joseph, Michigan, Carol Barber of Paris, Tennessee; brother-in-law Steven McVay and wife Wendy of Longview, Washington; nineteen nieces and nephews and numerous other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Cody Lane Redden, daughter Karli Blayne Redden, father and mother-in-law Victor and Paula McVay, brothers in law Wesley Sims and Heinz Bischof and sister-in-law Kathy Stephenson.

Pallbearer­s will be Matt Miles, Cash Miles, Case Miles, Marisa Johnson, Cade Johnson and Seth Cagle. Honorary pallbearer­s will be Dennis Orr, Joseph Redden, Tip Miller, Warren Templet, Randy Smith, Matthew Newman, Alex Newman, and Major Briggs. Joe Price Maddox passed away at the age of 83 on February 18, 2024, in San Angelo, Texas, surrounded by his family. During his extended six-year battle with throat cancer he showed great strength, perseveran­ce, and an unwavering positive attitude. Joe lived his life as a cowboy, and in 1971, expanded the Maddox Ranches built by his father, James Daniel “Jimmie” Maddox and his grandfathe­r, Joseph Price Maddox, from Mitchell County to Nolan County, and into New Mexico. He was the Ranch Manager of the West Ranch in Ozona, Texas, for Holistic Management Internatio­nal from 2000-2014. He continued his ranching when he and Peggy moved to Hermleigh, Texas, in 2014.

Joe met the love of his life, Peggy Sue Barnes Maddox, at age 14 in Sweetwater, Texas. They were married in 1960 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Joe attended Texas Christian University in 1958 and was a member of the freshman football team. He transferre­d to Texas Tech University in 1960 graduated in 1963 with a degree in Animal Husbandry.

Joe is survived by his wife, Peggy, and their children, Marjori Maddox Krebs and Jim Dalton Maddox and families. Marjori is married to Paul Krebs. Their daughter Taylor is married to Kaleb Potter; their children are Caroline Olivia and Preston Maddox. Their son is Jacob Price Krebs.

Their son Jim Dalton Maddox is married to Gretchen Bradfield Maddox. Their daughter Morgan Marie Brooks and her husband Parker Brooks have a daughter, Savannah June. Dalton and Gretchen’s daughter Amanda Macall is married to Kyle Compton; they have a son, Olsen Gene. Dalton and Gretchen’s daughter Mason Elizabeth Davila is married to Cutter Davila, and they have a daughter, Callie Reese. Dalton and Gretchen’s son is William Dalton Maddox.

Preceded in death by his father James Daniel “Jimmie” Maddox in 1971, his mother June Allen Maddox in 2000, and his brother Jim Ty Maddox in 1971.

Joe loved to ranch, play golf, listen to Willie’s Roadhouse, enjoy a good meal with good company, cheer on the Dallas Cowboys, and dance with Peggy in the kitchen on Sunday mornings. He was a caring, loving father, grandfathe­r, and great grandfathe­r who never met a stranger, and was known to call Mrs. Allen’s Fried Chicken to see when they would be serving apple cobbler. He taught us how to live a life full of fun, love, family, appreciati­on, and relationsh­ips.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Joe Price Maddox to the Mitchell County Stock Show Associatio­n, P. O. Box 657, Colorado City, Texas, 79512.

Calling hours will be held at McCoy Funeral Home, 401 E. 3rd St., Sweetwater, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
