SW ends its tourney with two wins

A 2-0 finish on Friday and Saturday at their annual Rattlesnak­e Baseball Classic held at Sportsman’s Park improved Sweetwater to 3-6 prior to a road game for the Mustangs against Seminole on Tuesday.

Sweetwater lost Friday’s first game to Wall 10-0 with just three hits, a double by

Jadyn Forbes and singles by Jade Rodriguez and Kyler Holsey, but after that things started to change beginning with a 9-3 win later Friday against Merkel that ended a four-game losing streak, followed by a 6-2 win against Abernathy on the final day of the three-day event.

Against Merkel, the Mustangs scored three first inning runs, four in the second and two in the third as both Forbes and Jade Rodriguez had two hits and Ayden Costillo, Cali Mendez, Daniel Rodriguez also hit safely in the game. Mendez and Daniel Rodriguez had two RBIs and Jade Rodriguez, Forbes and Holsey one, while Forbes, Chris Gomez and Mason Straley scored twice and Costillo, Mendez and Braxton Bartee once. Cash Barnes threw all four innings, surrenderi­ng just two hits and one earned run with five strikeouts.

Sweetwater’s runs against Abernathy all came in the first inning of Saturday’s 6-2 win. Jade Rodriguez, who replaced starter Kreed Davis in the first inning, was the winning pitcher. Forbes had three hits and Rodriguez and Blayne Bohall two. Forbes had two RBIs and Bohall, Aaron Palma, Mendez and Barnes one for Sweetwater.

Roscoe girls will play at the Coahoma tournament held at Big Spring’s Comanche Trail Golf Course.

Highland boys will play at the Veribest tournament held at San Angelo’s Quicksand Golf Course.

Blackwell boys will play at the Veribest tournament held at San Angelo’s Quicksand Golf Course.

Sweetwater boys will play at Lubbock Liberty, 5:30 p.m. Sweetwater girls will play at Lubbock Liberty, 7:30 p.m.

Sweetwater varsity will host Anson, 5 p.m. Sweetwater junior varsity will host Anson, 7 p.m.
