Stangs are run short at Seminole

-

SEMINOLE — After a 4-3 loss at Seminole on Tuesday Sweetwater’s baseball team will begin play on Thursday in a three-day tournament at Midland Greenwood.

Both teams had six hits and no errors on Tuesday but Seminole won due to a game-ending strikeout with the tying run for Sweetwater at third base and go-ahead run at first in the seventh inning. Seminole overcame a 2-0 deficit against Sweetwater starter Blayne Bohall with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings before the Mustangs cut their deficit to 4-3 on Cash Barnes’ two-out double in the seventh that scored Ryan Galindo.

Barnes them moved to third on a single by Mason Straley, but the game ended for Sweetwater (3-7) when the next batter struck out.

Sweetwater led 1-0 after Daniel Rodriguez singled to lead off the game and came around on a sacrifice, wild pitch and RBI grounder by Kyler Holsey.

Sweetwater made it 2-0 in the third when Rodriguez singled, stole second and third and scored on Holsey’s RBI single.

Seminole tied it 2-2 in the fifth on a double, wild pitch, walk, RBI single and finally a dropped third strike that scored the other run. The Indians then took the lead on a walk, hit batter and a two-RBI double in the sixth that proved to be the gamewinning hit for Seminole.

Holsey and Rodriguez finished with two hits apiece for Sweetwater, which is on the road until the Mustangs host Brownfield March 19, one week before the start of District 5-4A play.

Tuesday’s loss snapped a Sweetwater two-game win streak to finish up its Rattlesnake Classic.

Bohall pitched until the sixth, giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts, with Kreed Davis replacing him for the last three outs.
