Sweetwater soccer results from Tuesday

The Sweetwater girls soccer team fell to 2-9 Tuesday in District 2-4A action after losing 6-0 at Lubbock Cooper Liberty, while the boys (1-10) lost to Liberty 2-1 to begin the night. Both teams hosted Andrews Friday to begin their final homestand.

Liberty girls 6, Sweetwater girls 0

Sweetwater gave up all six goals to host team Liberty in the first half before playing much better the second half of Tuesday’s match by holding Liberty scoreless.

Coach Logan Sharp said, “If they would have played with the same intensity as the second half, maybe the score would have been better. I;m proud of their effort and never giving up.”

This Tuesday, Sweetwater will entertaiin San Angelo Lake View in the team’s last home match of the year before ending play next week at Snyder. Entering Friday

Greenwood (11-0) led the district with Snyder 7-3-1, Lake View 5-4-2, Estacado 5-5-1 and Andrews 3-8 with Pecos in last at 1-10.

Liberty boys 2, Sweetwater boys 1

Sweetwater pulled into a tie with Liberty until giving up a late goal to trail 2-1 at halftime, and the score did not change as neither team found the goal the second half. Brandon Martinez got Sweetwater’s first half goal in Tuesday’s match to tie things up at 1-1 before Libery scored on a penalty kick.

Coach Sharp said, “It was a tough game to lose when you know you’re the better team. The boys had their moments. We have to put away our chances.”

Entering Friday, Lake View was first at 11-0 with Estacado 9-1-1, Greenwood 6-1-4, Pecos 6-4-1, Andrews 3-6-2 and Snyder 2-7-2 with three matches left.
