We need more volunteers at Have a Heart

- BY ANN CARROLL Ann Carroll is a board member of Have a Heart.

We hope you have ventured into our little resale shop, Rescued Treasures, recently. Our treasurer, Gina Christopher, and helpers, used some closed days to completely rearrange the layout and make the space seem much roomier and much easier for donors to bring in their donations!

You no longer have to traipse clear to the back of the shop to drop off your generous items — you just have to leave them in the area near the cash register — then your hands are free to just mosey around and shop or buy pet supplies and toys.

With the new surge of COVID and the current tier we are categorized in, our open days are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with pet adoption day still being on Saturday, during the hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Don’t forget your mask.) There are puppies, and cats of all ages looking for loving homes.

Yes, times are tough, but if you can, open your heart and home to a pet who has lost his or her home, or who was born into unfortunate circumstances.

As our community has gotten to know us over the years, you have seen that our main thrust, besides adoption and rescue, has been to provide affordable spay and neuter for every pet that we can, regardless of the pet owner’s income.

Unfortunately, we have had a loss of veterinarian clinic availability, and even with higher prices, we have not been able to schedule our ongoing clinics as we have in the past. This breaks our hearts, because we were really beginning to see a difference in the numbers of unwanted litters and homeless pets. We aren’t giving up; we are still trying to establish clinics and find a way to help all pet owners do the responsible thing for an affordable price.

If you care about animals and have an inner desire to help our furry pet babies live a better life, we could sure use your help. We not only need to keep building our army of dog and cat foster families, but we need volunteers to work at the shop on our open days.

We would love to have you join us in taking in the great things people donate to us, sorting through them, pricing them, and helping display them in a creative fashion, so that Rescued Treasures continues to be one of Tehachapi’s favorite little places to shop for great bargains, and to continue to provide love and help to the critters! Please come in and find out about becoming part of our great organization! We need you as volunteers and as foster families!
