Church volunteers receive appreciation
Every organization needs volunteers, and Tehachapi Community Congregational Church is fortunate to have many of them. At the recent annual meeting, Patrick Pine, president of trustees, thanked the many members who give of their time and their resources. He especially recognized three members who have served in various capacities for many years.
Jim Carmichael has been on the Board of Trustees for many years. He has always been concerned about the buildings and the budget. He has faithfully served as an usher every Sunday. Photography is one of his interests, and when photos were needed, Jim did the job. He also plays the bagpipes and many times he performed for special events.
Wayne Thompson is musically talented and can play several instruments, lead singing and has contributed greatly to the music program of the church. Teaching Sunday School was something he enjoyed, and his storytelling ability enhanced the classes. He was credited with organizing a Men’s Group, which continues to meet each month at the church.
Brian St. John was recognized for his many years of service as a trustee. He often brought attention to matters that should be dealt with and “kept the trustees on their toes.” He served on various other committees and sometimes served as the liturgist.
The three honorees were presented with small glass trophies that outlined their contributions. The congregation responded with applause of approval and then enthusiastically clapped and cheered for Patrick Pine, who has served so selflessly in many leadership positions.
Tehachapi Community Congregational Church (UCC), located at the corner of Green and E streets, is the
oldest protestant church in Tehachapi. Worship is held each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Anyone interested is invited
to attend.
