Wrestlers compete at Masters; Hart siblings qualify for state

It was a memorable weekend for Mountain Wrestling with an impressive eight athletes competing in the CIF Central Section Masters Tournament at Selland Arena – Fresno.

For the Lady Warriors, Reese Hart (172 pounds) became the first female athlete in Tehachapi High history to qualify for the state tournament, earning her berth after amassing a 4-1 record, recording all victories by pin. Other competitor­s on the girls’ side were Jazzalynn Ramirez (135 pounds) collecting two victories, Katelyn Fair (155 pounds) earning a victory, and Abby Strategos (235 pounds).

The Warriors were led by three-time CIF Central Section Division V champion Levi Hart, who ran through a gauntlet of tough competitio­n to end with an overall record of 5-2 and a ninthplace finish. Hart, a senior, is one of the best wrestlers in THS history, having won three-peat CIF Division V championsh­ips in 2022 (145 pounds), 2023 (152 pounds) and 2024 (165 pounds), and will represent Tehachapi at the state tourney this weekend with his sister, Reese.

Other Warrior competitor­s at the masters tourney for Tehachapi were Christian McKibbon (285 pounds), Mark Nicholson Jr (190 pounds), and James Jacobsen (157 pounds).

Levi and Reese Hart will move on to the CIF state tournament this Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 2224, at Mechanics Bank Arena in downtown Bakersfiel­d.

LADIES SOCCER SEASON ENDS IN CIF FIRST ROUND AGAINST BISHOP

The Lady Warriors had their soccer season come to a close last week in the CIF Central Section Division IV playoffs, edged out in a 2-1 defeat by No. 2 seed Bishop.

Tehachapi, the No. 15 seed, had a goal from Hannah Tyree in the first half.

Bethany Sierra had three shots on goal while Tyree, Delilah Cardenas and Bella Shipman had two shots on goal, apiece. Makenna Paxton had a great game at keeper with 13 goalie saves.

Mountain Soccer ended their season with a 12-5-5 record and a second-place finish (5-2-1 record) in the South Yosemite Mountain League.

BASEBALL OFF TO GREAT START WITH PAIR OF PRESEASON VICTORIES

The THS varsity baseball team is off to a fantastic start with a victory over Palmdale-Highland, 8-3, and Hanford West, 9-0 to start their year.

Tehachapi (2-0) was led in the win over Hanford West by Samuel Ciaccio, who threw a pitching gem with a no-hitter and eight strikeouts. Strong plate performanc­es at the plate came from Cyler Hoofard (3-4, run, RBI), Wade Brooks (2-3, two runs, two RBIs), Noah Schneir (2-5, run, RBI) and Andrew Widders, Christophe­r Turpin, Tylere Lombardi, Brevin Skaggs and Ciaccio all recording hits.

Against Palmdale-Highland, the bats came alive early with the Warriors jumping out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning. Turpin picked up the win on the mound with eight strikeouts recorded. Offensivel­y the Warriors were led by Schneir (2-2, run, RBI), Colton Christy (1-2, run, three RBIs) and Skaggs (1-3, run, three RBIs).

The Warriors will continue their pre-season this week with participat­ion in the Terrio Tourney against Bakersfiel­d and Bakersfiel­d Christian.

Playing for the Warriors this season will be seniors Brevin Skaggs, Christophe­r Turpin, Samuel Ciaccio and Colton Christy, juniors Wade Brooks, Cyler Hoofard, Isaiah Perry and Bryce Segale, sophomores Aiden Salazar, Noah Schneir, Tylere Lombardi and Andrew Widders and freshmen Levi Leach and Michael Gil. The head coach is Guy Dees.
