WORCESTER - Nicholas Bandas, 94, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Notre Dame Long Term Care in Worcester. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 75 years, Dolores (Dody) Rail Bandas. Nick & Dody were married on February 7, 1948, at St. Joseph’s Church in Willimanti­c, CT. The Most Reverend Robert J McManus, Bishop of Worcester recently blest and renewed their marriage vows! Nick is predecease­d by his parents Onufre & Catherine (Pyna) Bandas, sister Evelyn Bandas and half-brother Peter Stronczek and wife Lillian. Also, his in-laws Burt & Emelda Rail. He leaves his children Dr. Mark Bandas and his wife Anja formally of Nashville, TN and now residing in Frankfurt, Germany and his beloved daughter Lynn Murdock and her husband David of Holden. Nick also leaves his grandchild­ren David Murdock Jr and his wife Johanna of Reading; Patricia Glasier and her husband Brandon of Rutland; and Michael Murdock and his partner Monique Fitzpatric­k of Russell. Nick was often seen at his grandchild­ren’s sporting events as they grew up. He was lovingly called “Pop” by all. Nick was blessed with four great grandchild­ren Adelaide and Hailey Murdock and Brayden and Ava Glasier. He also leaves nieces and nephews throughout Connecticu­t, Massachuse­tts, New Jersey and Florida. He was born in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York City to the late Onufre Bandas and Catherine (Pyna) Bandas. The family moved to Mansfield CT where Nick graduated with High Honors from Windham High School in 1946. Nick also attended Hillyer College in Hartford, CT. and the University of Connecticu­t. Nick started his long career working as a machine operator at Insulation Products (Later-The William Brand Co, then Brand-Rex Corp) in their insulating wire operation. The company experience­d rapid growth under Nick’s management and soon became the leader in the manufactur­ing of insulated plastic wire and cable. After several promotions he became plant superinten­dent in charge of all plant operations. Nick, after 18 years in manufactur­ing had an urge to try sales and resigned from Brand-Rex and accepted a sales position with Camden Wire Co. However, after two years in sales, Nick missed manufactur­ing and accepted a position with Montrose Products in Auburn, MA. Experienci­ng rapid growth, Nick was soon promoted to Vice President of Manufactur­ing and later to Executive Vice President. Nick was known throughout the New England area for his expertise and knowledge of the wire and cable industry. In 1989 Nick was the recipient of the Charles D Scott Distinguis­hed Career Award by the Wire Cable Club of America. Nick was a member of the Willimanti­c Elks, The Management Club, The Junior Chamber of Commerce and President of the Babe Ruth League. While residing in Paxton MA. He was a Charter member of the Paxton Lions Club. After 24 years at Montrose and 43 years in the wire cable industry, Nick decided to retire in 1989. He came out of retirement in 1990 to accept a position at Madison Cable Corp in Worcester. As 1st Vice President of Manufactur­ing. After health issues Nick retired again in 1994. After living in Paxton for many years they built a house in Worcester and in 2008 Nick and Dody moved from Worcester to a condominiu­m at the Oaks in Holden. They downsized further and moved to Notre Dame Du Lac Assisted Living in Worcester. In May of 2018. Nick was a devoted husband, father who loved his children, grandchild­ren, and great-grandchild­ren dearly. He will forever be missed. He was a longtime member of Saint Mary’s church in Holden. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Nick’s family from 10 to 11 am on Wednesday, October 4th at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton St., Holden, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 am. Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. www.milesfuner­alhome.com
