Crusaders net series sweep in second OT

Men’s hockey

Atlantic Hockey Tournament

Holy Cross 2, Canisius 1: Jack Seymour scored 3:53 into the second overtime to lift the second-seeded Crusaders (20-12-4) over the Golden Griffins (12-21-4), securing a 2-0 sweep of an best-of-three quarterfin­al at the Hart Center. Canisius defeated HC in AHA championsh­ip game last season.

Jason Grande stopped 38 shots for Holy Cross, which will host a best-ofthree semifinal series next weekend, against fifth-seeded American Internatio­nal College. Regular-season champion RIT hosts Niagara in the other semifinal series.

Jack Robilotti scored in the second period to tie the game for the Crusaders, who have won nine of their last 10 games.

Baseball

Clark 9, UMass-Dartmouth 2; Clark 6, UMass-Dartmouth 5: The Cougars extended their season-opening winning streak to nine with a fourrun rally in the extra inning, the eighth, to complete the sweep of the Corsairs (1-4), who had scored three in the top half, in Davenport, Florida. Maxwell Gitlin (3-0) struck out eight in six innings of Game 1, and Billy Sullivan was 3 for 3 with a double and RBI.

Fitchburg State 8, MinnesotaM­orris 6: Maxwell Kelly and Nolan Hills each had two hits and drove in three runs as the Falcons (3-3) outlasted the Cougars (2-4) in Davenport. Adam Wholley struck out two of three he faced in the ninth inning to pick up the save.

Anna Maria 6, Thomas 4; Thomas 9, Anna Maria 5: Josh Batchelder’s two-run double highlighte­d a six-run fifth inning, propelling the AmCats (3-6) in the first game in Auburndale, Florida. Kosta Drosidis and Jarry Barber each drove in two runs in Game 2.

Cal Riverside 12, Holy Cross 11; Cal Riverside 11, Holy Cross 4: In the opener, Connor Cooney (two-run homer), Jimmy King and Jake McElroy sparked a 17-hit attack with three hits each as the Crusaders (3-10) led, 11-2, but the Highlander­s (9-6) scored four runs in the eighth inning and six in the ninth. Cooney, King and McElroy all had two hits in the nightcap.

Southern Connecticu­t State 20, Assumption 3: Former St. Paul star Max Lefrancois delivered a two-run single in the fourth inning, and Jack Barry and Christophe­r Manzo had two hits each for the Greyhounds (3-7) in a loss to the Owls (7-4) in Lake Worth Beach, Florida.

Softball

Northern Illinois 5, Holy Cross 4: Ava Gambichler was 3 for 4 with an RBI, and Megan Yurchick drove in two runs for the Crusaders (4-9) in their final game at the Montana Softball Classic, but the Huskies (5-12) won it in a walk-off with a squeeze bunt in the seventh. HC went 2-3 in Missoula.

Men’s lacrosse

Assumption 24, Caldwell 6: Jackson Bulger connected for four goals, Cameron Theriault scored three goals with an assist, and Nolan Johnson scored once with four assists for the host Greyhounds (3-1), who shut out the Cougars (0-3) in the first and third quarters.

Army 18, Holy Cross 8: Henry Sheehan, William Stahl and Jude Lynch each scored twice for the Crusaders (2-4, 0-2 Patriot) in a road loss to the secondrank­ed Black Knights (6-0, 2-0).

Women’s lacrosse

Holy Cross 15, Colgate 13: Sally Zinsner netted four goals, Annabel Brennan notched a hat trick, and Riley Peters, Ella Kittredge (2 assists) and Isabela Miller (4 assists) each scored a pair as the visiting Crusaders (5-2, 1-0 Patriot) won their fourth straight. Holy Cross rode an 8-0 third period and held off the Raiders (0-6, 0-1), who scored five of the last six goals. HC’s Lauren Drillock had a goal and three assists.

Worcester State 9, Southern Maine 6: Shea Jarvis scored three times, giving her 14 goals for the season, and Hannah Erickson and Abigail Wing each tallied twice as the visiting Lancers (4-1) held off the Huskies (1-2). Worcester State’s Olivia LaValle had 13 saves.

Fitchburg State 17, Mount Holyoke 8: Jessica St. George and Autumn Tibbetts (2 assists) each had four goals, and Nicole Orlowski pitched in three goals and three assists as the Falcons (3-1) turned back the Lyons (0-5) in South Hadley.

Nichols 12, Simmons 5: Hadley Houghton poured in seven goals, and Caitlin Welch and Paige Alexander each added a pair as the host Bison improved to 5-0. Houghton already has 30 goals on 39 shots on goal.

Maine-Framingham 14, Anna Maria 12: Kyana Altif and Raegan Hachey netted hat tricks, and Riley Michaud had two goals and three assists for the host AmCats (0-3), but the Beavers (3-0) scored six straight in the final period.

Track & field

NCAA Division 3 Championsh­ips: The day after anchoring the WPI women’s distance medley relay team to a national championsh­ip, Grace Hadley won the mile in a meet and school-record 4:42.36 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, for the national championsh­ip, the secondfast­est time in NCAA Division 3 history.

Hadley clocked 4:51.44 to win the mile preliminar­y heat on Friday.
