’Hounds bounce Franklin-Pierce in NCAA 1st round

Women’s basketball NCAA Division II East Regional

Assumption 58, Franklin Pierce 43: Molly Stokes was the only Greyhound in double figures with 14 points, but defending regional champion Assumption (25-5) was in command throughout in a first-round game at Bentley University’s Dana Center.

Marina Callahan (7 rebounds) and Amanda Mieczkowsk­i (6 boards) each netted eight points for the winners.

The second-seeded Hounds moved on to face sixth-seeded Daemen, a 5247 winner over St. Rose, in a regional semifinal Saturday, with the championsh­ip game slated for Monday.

Men’s hockey Atlantic Hockey Tournament

Holy Cross 5, American Internatio­nal 2: Liam McLinskey and Alec

Cicero each scored twice, and Jake Higgins and Jack Stockfish both had two assists as the second-seeded Crusaders (21-12-4) moved with a victory of the Atlantic Hockey championsh­ip game, turning back the No. 5 Yellow Jackets (18-15-4) in the opener of a bestof-three semifinal series at the Hart Center.

Jason Grande had 22 saves for HC, which faced AIC in Game 2 Saturday night. If necessary, Game 3 is set for 5 p.m. Sunday at the Hart Center.

Top-seeded RIT topped No. 7 Niagara, 4-1, in Friday’s other AHA semifinal opener.

Baseball

Clark 10, Mass. Maritime 8: Michael Soares and Samuel Farrell homered, and Dom Mariani (2 RBIs) and Billy Sullivan (3 runs) each had three hits to boost the host Cougars (10-1).

Division 1 state final At Tsongas Center, Lowell Bishop Feehan 48, Wachusett 40 loss to the Huskies (2-8) in Auburndale, Fla. Matthew Kelly also homered and was 3 for 5 with three RBIs.

Allie Silliman was 2 for 4 with a double, 3 RBI and scored twice as the Bison (4-6) rolled in the first game in Leesburg, Fla. Chelsea Indyk (3-1) scattered 10 hits and allowed just two earned runs. Kyla Felicani delivered a two-run double in the fifth inning of Game 2, and Olivia Pedro scattered three hits in the shutout.

Fitchburg State 8, Hannibal-La Grange 0; Florida National 6, Fitchburg State 0: Madison Solt allowed just two hits in the five-inning first game, and Molly Grass (2 runs), Julia Gauvin (3 RBIs) and Isabella Sousa (2-run double) each had two hits to boost the Falcons in Melbourne, Fla. Grass, Gauvin and Adria McKenzie had hits for Fitchburg State in the second game.

Boston College 3, Holy Cross 2: Anna Brait delivered an RBI single during a two-run sixth inning for the visiting Crusaders (5-11), who couldn’t catch BC (14-8) during the first day of the Eagle Round Robin in Brighton.
