Nichols walks it off against WPI

Nichols 12, WPI 11 (10 inn.): Ben Jerome worked a walk with the bases loaded to give the host Bison a walk-off win against the Engineers.

Jim Marasco was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the 10th, and after Karl Miller reached on a one-out single Johnny Knox was walked to load the bases, setting up Jerome’s walk to win it for Nichols (6-3).

Knox was 5 for 6 with a double, grand slam and five RBIs to lead the Bison, while Will Kleinhenz and Dylan Moran both recorded three hits and drove in runs. Clark Churchill earned the win for Nichols in relief, with three scoreless innings while fanning three and allowing one hit.

WPI (9-3) erased a seven-run deficit, as Spencer Merrick had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, while Marlboroug­h’s Andrew Cash and Jacob Hand each had two hits and two RBIs. Hand also had his team-leading third homer of the season for the Engineers.

Anna Maria 11, Brandeis 4: Former St. Peter-Marian star Kosta Drosidis had two hits and drove in three runs, while Jarrod Marifiote (2 RBIs) and Brady Aylward each had two hits as the visiting AmCats (6-7) used a sixrun eighth to top the Scots (4-7).

David Doherty and Jonathan Guardascio­ne each doubled for Anna Maria, while Owen Sullivan earned the win after allowing one earned run while fanning six over six innings.

St. Lawrence 9, Worcester State 3; St. Lawrence 12, Worcester State 9: Tyler Smith and Ryan Jewett each were 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, while Joe Auger was 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs and Gavin Wells added two hits to lead the Lancers (0-2) in the second game of a doublehead­er sweep by the Saints (2-3) in Davenport, Fla.

Colin Fitzgerald tripled and drove in two runs in the opener for Worcester

State.

Assumption 12, Queens 8; Queens 14, Assumption 3: Christophe­r Manzo was 4 for 5 with three runs, a homer and six RBIs, while Christophe­r Rabias was 4 for 5 with a double, homer, three runs and three RBIs as the visiting Greyhounds (5-9) topped the Knights (7-7) in the first game of a doublehead­er.

In the nightcap Sean Moynihan doubled and Owen Podolec had two hits to lead Assumption, but Queens put up seven runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to earn the sweep.

Men's hockey

American Internatio­nal 3, Holy Cross 1: The Crusaders (21-14-4) fell behind, 2-0, before junior Liam McLinskey scored on a wrister in the second period. But Holy Cross couldn’t get another one past Yellow Jackets netminder Nils Wallstrom (44 saves), as AIC (20-15-4) added an empty netter in the third period to win the best-of-three semifinal of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament at the Hart Center.

Holy Cross senior Jason Grande made 14 saves.

Softball

Assumption 9, Caldwell 4; Caldwell 4, Assumption 0: Corin Mahan (2 RBIs) and Lauren Geremia (double) each had two hits as the visiting Greyhounds (4-8) won the first game of a doublehead­er split against the Cougars (7-7).

Buffalo State 8, Worcester State 7: Jayden Kelly was 2 for 3 with a triple and RBI and Emma Lanpher was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI to lead the Lancers, but the Bengals (2-0) rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the win in Clermont, Fla.

Worcester State 9, Clarkson 1: Cali Brouillard was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, while Bailey Tammaro (2 RBIs), Morgan Keefe (double, RBI) and Bella Gasbarro (double, RBI) all had two hits as the Lancers (1-3) scored five runs in the fifth inning to win a mercy ruleshorte­ned game in Clermont, Fla.
