Oxford High’s Proctor wins honor
The votes have been tabulated, and Noah Proctor of Oxford High School has emerged as the Telegram & Gazette Student of the Week.
He captured 64% of the 474 total votes cast.
The sophomore was nominated by the school because of his achievements in and out of the classroom.
“Along with being committed to his academics, Noah is incredibly committed to many sports and clubs at OHS, such as cross-country, track, Student Council, Best Buddies, Class Council and National Honor Society,” the school wrote. “As a Student Council officer, he plays a vital role in planning and executing school and community events. Within all of his activities, Noah exemplifies what it means to be a student leader and through his actions, he truly makes a difference in his school community.”
We asked high school principals, teachers and guidance counselors to nominate students they say have shown outstanding school achievement and community service.
Besides Noah, other students considered for Student of the Week were:
Chris Shivers, South High: A respected student, CJ is a role model for the underclassmen. Whether it’s modeling South High’s 4 core R’s (Respectful, Responsible, Resilient and Ready to learn) or sharing a snack with a classmate, CJ, a junior, is very thoughtful and caring to all. He is a phenomenal athlete, aiding his PE teachers in demonstrating drills and teaching the other students on the proper way to play. He can often be seen taking other students under his wing and mentoring them. CJ continues to reach and exceed our high expectations during his tenure at South. His unselfishness on the court and his diligence in the classroom have made
him a role model for all at South High.
Camila Hernandez Umana, Fitchburg High School: Camila, a senior, has quietly moved up the charts. Her first two years were spent working tirelessly in our honors STEM Team maintaining straight A’s. Her dedication allowed her a chance to enroll in the Early College Academy where her last two years consisted entirely of AP and dual enrollment classes. Throughout her junior year, Camila took the opportunity to work with a sophomore geometry class where she co-taught. Camila joined the soccer and tennis teams along with volunteering at our local Senior Center through Fitchburg State Upward Bound program. Camila is part of both the National Honor Society and Aquatic Leadership Academy at Great Wolf Lodge where she is employed as a lifeguard. Through her work with the Best Buddies program, Camila truly shines, creating strong relationships and valuable friendships. As a first generation college student, Camila will be attending MCPHS studying ultrasound diagnostics.
