Panthers, Crusaders split a doublehead­er

HIGH SCHOOLS Softball

Marlboroug­h 13, Groton-Dunstable 7; Groton-Dunstable 9, Marlboroug­h 8: The Crusaders bounced back in the nightcap by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to gain the doublehead­er split in Marlboroug­h. The teams alternated games as home side.

Erin Ciarfella hit a homer for Groton-Dunstable (2-1, 2-1 Mid-Wach B) in the second game and added two RBIs and three runs. Shauna Bopp led the Panthers (3-3, 1-2) with three hits and two RBIs, and Catherine Seay hit her second home run of the day.

Seay went 4 for 4 in the first game with her home run, five RBIs and two runs. Lauren Haggerty belted a homer for the Crusaders.

Nipmuc 20, Millbury 15: Janelle Scirocco went 6 for 6 with a double, homer and seven RBIs as the visiting Warriors (4-0) outslugged the Woolies (2-2). Nipmuc’s Keegan Kelley had three hits, including a homer, and drove in four, while Bridge Klupa singled, doubled and drove in a pair. Jillian Roach doubled and stole home in the first inning, tripled in the third, belted a grand slam in the fourth and added a solo shot in the sixth to pace Millbury.

Leominster 10, Westboroug­h 1: Abby Barnaby went 3 for 3 with three runs, Gianna Tata drove in three, and Tori Belcastro struck out eight without allowing an earned run and was 2 for 3 with an RBI to power the host Blue Devils (3-0, 1-0 Mid-Wach A).

Baseball

Auburn 29, Sutton 1: The first seven hitters in the lineup for the host Rockets (3-1) — Connor Gardell, James Hillis, Patrick Saucier, Jayden Ortiz,

Erik Dupuis, Lorenzo Santos-Diaz and Owen Morrow — all had two hits, and Bruce Everson hurled a five-inning no-hitter while striking out eight.

Marlboroug­h 8, Groton-Dunstable 7: The host Panthers (3-2, 1-1 Mid-Wach B) scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Crusaders (1-1, 1-1). Michael Benway led Marlboroug­h with a double, an RBI and a run. Groton-Dunstable’s Andrew Raymond went 2 for 5 with an RBI.

Millbury 7, Westboroug­h 0: Bryson McCarthy went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run, while Matt Ramsdell was 2 for 4 with an RBI as the host Woolies (2-3) blanked the Rangers (3-1).

Boys volleyball

Worcester Tech 3, Main South 2: Lucca Barreto (8 kills), Liam Dancy (7 kills, 6 service points, 5 assists) and Christian Ortiz (3 aces, 2 kills, 27 assists) lifted the visiting Eagles (4-3, 3-0 Colonial) past the Cougars (1-3, 1-2). Set scores were 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 14-25, 15-8.

North 3, Burncoat 1: Zyan Laura had 13 kills, Martin Eisha added 22 assists and fve aces, and Nathan Thai collected five aces and eight digs to propel the Polar Bears (4-3, 2-3 Inter-High). Set scores were 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 27-25. Simon Diaz (4 aces, 22 assists) and Jayden Mott (6 aces, 13 kills) led the Patriots (0-5, 0-3).

St. John’s 3, Algonquin 1: Francis McGonagle (14 kills, 10 digs, 3 aces), Ani Vasudevan (12 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs, 1 ace) and Phillip Vignaly (6 kills, 4 blocks, 1 dig, 4 aces) sparked the Pioneers (2-3), winning by scores of 25-8, 25-11, 22-25, 25-14.

Keefe Tech 3, Bay Path 0: Bryan Costa collected six kills and eight aces, and C.J. Sok totaled 15 kills and two aces as the host Broncos (6-1) swept the Minutemen (0-6). Set scores were 25-9, 2512, 25-18.

Boys lacrosse

Monty Tech 8, Nashoba Tech 6: Ryan Quinn and Colin Allian each scored twice, and Nick Couture, Charlie Scobie, Nick Paquet and Brett Mailloux added goals as the Bulldogs (1-3) topped the Vikings (0-2) in Westford.

Leominster 13, Bay Path 3: Dom Carr and Max Sleeper each notched hat tricks, while Ben Marchetti and Chase Kranc scored twice to lift the host Blue Devils (1-5). Matthew Chatterton netted two goals for the Minutemen (0-2).

Girls lacrosse

AMSA 23, Marlboroug­h 6: Bella Rand netted seven goals to lift the host Eagles (2-2). Ella Hobin had a hat trick for the Panthers (1-3), while Elizabeth Johnson collected two goals and three assists.

Boys rugby

Algonquin 31, Catholic Memorial 26: Preston Biamou scored two tries and gained 87 meters, and Dominic McNeil enjoyed a fine all-around match for the Titans (2-0). Nick Southey also had two tries, Ivan Diaz had the other, and David Downey made three conversion­s.

LOCAL COLLEGES Men’s lacrosse

Connecticu­t College 15, Nichols 9: Conor Doherty netted three goals with an assist, and Shea Ullo scored twice for the host Bison (8-6) in a loss to the Camels (4-6).

Women’s lacrosse

Worcester State 21, Mass. Maritime 12: Abigail Wing had five goals and two assists, Molly Witkowski collected four goals and two assists, and Mckayla Fisher added a hat trick with two assists as the Lancers (7-6, 2-0 MASCAC) upended the Buccaneers (5-8, 2-4) in Buzzards Bay.
