Organization to host event at Sacred Heart
Catholic Charities of East Texas will host a fall fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 4505 Elizabeth St
The event includes discussions with former CNN editor and photographer Linda Schaefer about her book, “Come and See—A Photojournalist’s Journey into the World of Mother Teresa.”
Schaefer met Mother Teresa in 1995 when commissioned to photograph her visit to Atlanta, Ga.
The experience so fueled Shaefer’s desire to gain more knowledge of Mother Teresa’s world, she volunteered in an orphanage in Calcutta where she developed a deep relationship with the iconic religious figure.
It was during this time Schaefer was allowed to photograph and document Mother Teresa, her nuns and volunteers in the environment where they lived and worked.
Tickets are $25 per person for the presentation and dinner or $10 with a student ID.
Although tickets are available at the door, those interested in participating are asked to call today with the number in their group for food preparation purposes.
Shaefer’s books will be available for $25 and may be autographed during a meet and greet post reception.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Catholic Charities East Texas, which works to ease the suffering of the poor and hungry in East Texas.
