KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m., Memorial Stadium, Texas A&M University-Commerce.

LAST WEEK: The Hawks dropped a 40-28 decision to Tatum, and the Tigers lost to Princeton, 39-28.

LAST YEAR: The teams did not play.

GAME FACTS: The Hawks hold a 2-0 record in the series against Commerce. Pleasant Grove is averaging 16.3 points per game and allowing 33.7, while the Tigers have scored 34.3 per outing and given up 32 per game. Commerce has its open date next week before starting District 6-2A, Division I play the following week. PG is on the road for the third straight week. Harris Ratings Services has the Tigers favored by three TDs.

COACHES COMMENTS: PG’s Kevin Davis— “We played a lot better last week: we did a better job with the penalties and the turnovers. Commerce is almost the spitting image of Tatum. Offensively, they are just going to try to put up as many points as they can, and defensively they just want to try to hang on. That’s how they’re games have been all year.

“It will be a good contest for our kids, and

it will just continue getting us ready for district by seeing athletic teams. Our kids are gaining more confidence in what we’re trying to do, and we just need to go out and improve on what we’ve done.”

Commerce’s Scott Wells— “Pleasant Grove has played some good teams this year, and they’ve played hard in every game. At this time of the year everyone’s a little banged up, and we are definitely ready for our bye week (next week).

“Every year is a little different it seems for us. Two years ago we kind of hung our hat on our defense and stopping teams. Last year we had pretty good execution on both sides of the ball, and this season our offense has been playing well. Our defense is still finding their way; they are young and working on getting some of the kinks worked out.”
