TMS thrashes Forest Park, 30-18

Texas Middle School’s eighth grade ‘A’ team got its season underway with a 30-18 thrashing of Longview’s Forest Park Thursday at Tiger Stadium at Grim Park.

Trey Henderson scored three times for the Tigers (1-0) including an 80-yard return of the opening kickoff.

Alex Long scored the 2-pointer after Henderson’s kickoff return and another after Henderson aced 40 yards for a second TD.

William Hawthorne caught a 12yard TD pass from Cade Pearson, and Henderson wrapped up the scoring for TMS with a 21-yard jaunt. Randall York tossed the 2-pointer to Deterryon Hunter after the final TD.

TMS-L-E split

Liberty-Eylau’s seventh grade ‘A’ team blanked Texas Middle School’s eighth grade ‘C’ team, 22-0.

Ahmad Dickerson scored twice for the Leopards on a 30yard run and a 30-yard fumble return. Dickerson also scored two extra points. Ralph Crabtree also scored a touchdown and two-pointer for L-E.

The Tigers’ eighth grade ‘ B’ team beat L-E’s eighth grade ‘B’ team, 14-8. Quan Hampton accounted for all of TMS’ points on touchdown runs of 15 and 30 yards. He added a two-pointer. Darian Walker returned a kickoff 78 yards for L-E’s only touchdown, with John Neal adding the two-pointer.

Bulldogs top Hooks

HOOKS, Texas—Decorius Dickerson scored Hooks’ only touchdown on a 45-yard run and Mark Reiter kicked the PAT, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Hornets’ junior varsity lost to Jefferson, 33-7.

Hooks is 3-1 on the season.

Hawks sweep Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas—Pleasant Grove swept four middle school football games from Commerce.

The Hawks’ eighth grade ‘A’ team won, 36-8. Cory Jones scored three touchdowns on runs of 27 and 31-yard runs, and a 55-yard pass from Connor Ouellette. Jones added a twopointer. Logan Wesley threw a 27-yard scoring pass to Devuntay Walker and Keshawn Jones returned an intercepti­on 46 yards for six points. Ouellette and Walker added two-pointers.

PG won the eighth grade ‘B’ game, 20-0. Sawyer Smallwood scored on a 38-yard intercepti­on return and threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Layne Martindale. The same two connected for two extra points. Tyler Sutherland also scored a two-pointer.

In seventh grade ‘A’ action PG romped, 44-6. Robert Phillips scored five touchdowns, including a 65-yard kickoff return and 70-yard intercepti­on return. He also scored a two-pointer. Carson Cox scored on an 11-yard run and added a two-pointer, and Chauncey Martin scored two extra points.

The Hawks’ seventh grade ‘B’ squad shut out Commerce, 14-0. Griffin Young and Noah Sexton scored PG’s touchdowns. Xavier Benson added the two-pointer.

Genoa, Fouke split

FOUKE, Ark.—Jarrett Easley scored all 22 of Fouke’s points in leading the Panthers’ seventh graders over Genoa Central, 228. Kolton McCoy scored for the Dragons with Joseph Moody adding two extra points.

The Dragons won the junior high contest, 16-0. Justin Swecker caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Kelley. Mo Milum tackled a Fouke back for a safety in the fourth quarter, and Micah Larry scored on a 2-yard run in the final seconds, with Anthony Deramcey adding two extra points.

Tigers freshman victorious

Rakim Thurston’s 42-yard touchdown run with 4:30 left in the fourth quarter allowed Texas High’s freshman “A” team to take a 26-20 win over Tyler Lee. Jerry Wrightner scored all three of the Tigers touchdowns.

His first was a 9-yard run in the first quarter. The two-point conversion run failed. Wrightner caught a 42-yard pass from Allen Sprayberry in the second quarter. Jaylen Rhone’s two-point run tied the score at 14-14.

Kip Williams found Wrightner for a 56-yard score in the third quarter. The conversion run was short.

THS cornerback Chaz Davis intercepte­d a pass to stop a Tyler drive in the third. Jacoby Block 20-yard return of a fumble with two minutes left sealed the win.

North Heights downs El Dorado

Both of North Heights’ 8th grade football teams posted victories over El Dorado in games held at Razorback Stadium.

The ‘A’ team led all the way in a 19-13 victory against the Wildcats.

La’Donyan Patterson scored on a 60-yard pass from Caleb Jones in the first quarter. Tyler Braswell kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Torreann Giather raised the margin to 13-0 when he scored from six yards out in the second quarter. In the third quarter Korlean Campbell rushed in from 35 yards out. North Heights missed the PAT kick on the last two touchdowns.

The ‘B’ team edged El Dorado, 8-6. Cameron Blackwell scored on a 35-yard pass and Kendall Martin run in the two-point conversion.

Both teams are 1-1 and travel to El Dorado on Sept. 27.

Hawks blank Commerce

Hunter Hatfield rushed for touchdowns of 20 and 11 yards, twice to help Pleasant Grove’s jayvees record a 49-0 shutout on visiting Commerce. The win raised the Hawks to 3-1 on the year.

Carsen Craytor added two scores—the first on a 22-yard pass intercepti­on with 6:12 to go in second quarter. Later, Craytor rushed in from 28 yards away with four minutes left.

Blake Roberts and Connor Lemmerhirt scored PG’s first quarter touchdowns. Roberts’ came on a 35-yard run. Lemmerhirt’s TD came off a 35-yard return after Brooks Robinson blocked a Commerce punt.

Nathan Pugh, Hatfield, Robinson and Lemmerhirt all had solid defensive games according to the coaches.

PG earns comeback win

Jacob Smith culminated a huge day when he scored the gamewinnin­g touchdown on a 5-yard run with two minutes left to give Pleasant Grove’s freshman team a 38-32 win over White Oak.

Smith had a hand in each of the Hawks five TD’s. In the first half Smith hit Lavoshow Williams with a 42-yard pass and a 21-yard strike to Teviari Barker. Smith connected with Williams twice—for TD’s of 12 and 16 yards—in the fourth quarter.

Smith was 3-for-4 on two-point conversion runs and passed to Williams for another.

Cornerback A.J. Snyder had a key intercepti­on to stop a drive.

Dragons prevail

REDWATER, Texas—Colby Leatherwoo­d scored two touchdowns in leading Rewater’s junior varsity past Elysian Fields, 30-14.

Nick Anderson, Fox Smith and Wesley Fisk also scored for the Dragons, Fisk’s score coming on a 43-yard fumble return.

Defensive standouts for the Dragons included Preston McCarthy and Zach Wincher.

Redwater splits

REDWATER, Texas— Redwater won one of two games held at the junior high campus. The 7th grade team earned a 8-0 decision against Elysian Fields on Seth Lathrop’s 4-yard run in the third quarter.

The 8th grade squad lost 28-8. Ryan Seddens scored on a 70yard kickoff return in the first quarter.
