Redwater falls to Daingerfie­ld

DAINGERFIE­LD, Texas— Daingerfie­ld scored 24 points in the third quarter to take a 59-52 result over Redwater in a nondistric­t battle at the Tigers Gym on Saturday.

The outburst by the Lady Tigers broken open what had been a tightly-played contest throughout the first half.

Both teams were knotted at 9 going into the second quarter when Redwater (14-4) dashed off 16 points to Daingerfie­ld’s 10 to take a six-point lead into halftime.

After the break, Daingerfie­ld stepped its offense up. In the second half the Lady Tigers outscored their opponents 4027.

Redwater’s Katie Bennett finished with a game-best 17 points and Courtney Pedron had 10. Deandra Hanson scored 13 for Daingerfie­ld.

Earlier, Redwater won the JV game, 53-28. Emily Ketchum led with 19 points.

The Lady Dragons travel to Avery Monday for a 1 p.m. nondistric­t contest.

Lady Dragons earn win

ASHDOWN, Ark.—Genoa Central overcame a 16-5 deficite to Eagletown, Okla. in the first quarter by outscoring the Lady Eagles in each of the next three quarters to post a 46-41 victory at the Ashdown Classic on Saturday.

Andrea Hill ripped past Eagletown’s defense for 16 points and Nicole Cornett added eight for the Lady Dragons (4-7).

Macie Taylor, who finished with 20 points, was Eagletown’s only player to have more than seven points in the contest.

In boys action, Genoa captured a 51-42 win over Eagletown. It was the Dragons’ first victory in two seasons.

Genoa’s Cale Ridling had 20 points and Jacob Burns ended with 18. Both teams resume district play next Friday at home against Bismarck. before fouling out in the second half.

Avery takes one of two

TENAHA, Texas—Avery recovered from a 54-48 loss to Leggert with a 48-40 victory against San Augustine at the Tenaha Tournament.

Taylor Bowles drained home 20 points for the Lady Bulldogs in the win.

Avery (10-8) dashed out to a seven-point lead by the end of the first quarter against the Lady Wolves.

In the early game, Leggett opened a 29-22 lead at halftime before Avery responded with a third quarter rally to take a temporary 34-32 lead by the end of the quarter.

Leggett responded by outscoring Avery, 22-14, in the final eight minutes.

Whitney Kelsoe scored 15 and Bowles had 10 points for Avery. Leggett’s Tiyanna Barlow lead with 27 points.
