- By Emily Sanders

Texarkana, Texas, Planning and Community Development Department announced plans to host a spring cleanup event focused on three Texas-side communities.

Lisa Thompson, public information officer for the city, said the cleanup will kick off at 9 a.m. in the Rose Hill, Highland Park and Beverly communities and is slated to last until 12 p.m.

“The city is asking citizens to take responsibility for their neighborhoods and get outdoors and clean up on Saturday, April 18th,” said David Orr, planning and community development director. “We will provide staging areas, Dumpsters, safety vests and gloves, but we need residents to come together and volunteer to make an impact in their community. Neighborhood projects could include picking up trash, reporting broken or nonfunctional street lights, clearing debris from yards and much more.”

Residents across the city are encouraged to place large items, up to 1 cubic yard of material, at the curb during their normally scheduled waste collection day the week of the cleanup, according to the release.

Thompson said staging areas for the event are:

Rose Hill—The Oaks at Rose Hill, 2100 W. 12th St.

Highland Park—Collins Senior Center, 300 Texas Blvd.

Beverly—Judith McCarty School of Dance, 2524 New Boston Road
