- By Emily Sanders

Texarkana, Texas, police arrested a Texas-side woman Monday on a felony charge of abandoning or endangering a child in an incident that occurred on Feb. 18, according to police.

Yvonn e Wright, 24, was arrested at her home at Town North Apartments on Monday, after detectives obtained a warrant for her arrest, according to Sgt. Mike Jones, police spokesman.

A press release stated that on Feb. 18, an employee of the Elizabeth Street apartment complex heard a young child crying for help inside the apartment. When the employee was unable to get anyone to come to the door, he summoned the apartment manager, who entered the apartment and found a 3-year-old girl inside, “alone and frightened,” and called police, Jones said.

When Wright arrived home, she told detectives that she left her apartment that morning to go grocery shopping and stated that she “did not want to wake her (sleeping child),” according to the release. Jones said it was later determined that Wright had left little girl alone in her apartment for more than an hour and forty-minutes.

Justice of the Peace Nancy Talley has set Wright’s bond at $100,000 for the felony charge, according to Jones.

Child Protective Services was notified, Jones said, and has initiated a separate investigation into the incident.
