Harmony tops Hooks; DeKalb blanks Rivercrest

HOOKS, Texas—Hooks was unable to comeback in the second half against Harmony and lost 35-21.

Hooks led Harmony in the first quarter 14-8 with a 25 yard rushing touchdown by Montrell Estell, and quarterbac­k Jordan Johnson threw a 34-yard pass to Jake Witten.

Going into the second quarter, Johnson threw a 36-yard pass to Estell. Harmony would win the second quarter 12-7 with a safety, 11-yard run and a 34-yard field goal.

Hooks had 126 rushing yards on 21 attempts. Hooks completed five out of nine passes for 108 and two touchdowns.

Harmony scored 15 points in the second half to earn the victory.

Hughes Springs 47, Clarksvill­e 12

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas–Gabe Dubose ran for 261 yards and two touchdowns in leading Hughes Springs past an outmanned Clarksvill­e squad.

The Mustangs built a 35-0 lead in the first half. Quarterbac­k Malik Chism ran for one score and passed for another in the first half, while Dubose scored his two TDs.

Hughes Springs piled up 623 total yards, 549 coming on the ground. Dedrick Hill had 116 yards on seven carries for the Ponies..

The Blue Tigers scored twice in the third quarter on runs by Rayzon Allen, who finished the game with 93 yards on eight carries. Chism countered with a 1-yard scoring plunge, and Tony Kemp scored for the Mustangs with 6:21 left in the game.

Austin King and Shamori Ivory had intercepti­ons for the Mustangs’ defense. Ivory was also on the receiving end of a 60-yard TD pass from Chism. Arp 20, Paul Pewitt 0

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas — Tarbon Betts rushed for 70 yards on nine carries, but Paul Pewitt fell to Arp, 20-0.

Lamon Hills was a standout on defense for the Brahmas with two intercepti­ons and eight tackles.

Skyer Hotaling scored from 41 yards out with 14 seconds left in the first quarter for Arp, and Tommy Reese return a punt for a score.

Isaiah Baker ran for a 7-yard touchdown, and Julian Herndon ran in the 2-point PAT for the Tigers. Arp had 304 yards rushing, while the Brahmas had 110 yards.

Paul Pewitt plays at Waskom Friday.

DeKalb 46, Rivercrest 0

DEKALB, Texas—Gavin Flowers ran in two touchdowns to lead DeKalb in its shutout over Rivercrest, 46-0.

Bear quarterbac­k Ryan Cannon found Javan Forte for a 33-yard touchdown with 28 seconds left in the first quarter. Cannon plunged in a 1-yard TD early in the second quarter, and Flowers found the end zone from nine yards out with 1:59 to go in the first half.

DeKalb’s Flowers nudged in a 2-yard score early in the third quarter and ran in the 2-point conversion. Jaquan Jackson blasted down the field for a 72-yard TD to put the Bears up, 33-0. Roman Castillo legged in the extra point.

D.J. Gray had a 7-yard touchdown run, and Castillo booted in the extra point for the Bears with 10:17 left in the game. DeKalb’s Cody Felty sprinted down field for a 56-yard score late in the fourth.

Flowers had 170 yards on 10 carries, while Forte helped out with one intercepti­on.
