Comic Con returns to Ark-La-Tex

It's a bird. It's a plane. It's the fifth annual Ark-La-Tex Comic Con, and it will land at Texarkana Convention Center this Labor Day weekend, Sept. 5-6.

Adults' tickets are $15 for one day or $25 for both days and include the admission of two children 12 or younger per each adult ticket. The cost for additional children's tickets is $5. Tickets can be purchased online at arklatexco­miccon.org.

Event organizers are anticipati­ng about 50 vendors and more than a dozen guests spanning all of pop culture. Confirmed guests scheduled to appear are Walking Dead's Coleman Youmans, Chris Harrelson and Moses J. Moseley; Gigi Edgley, star of Syfy's hit series Farscape; Emmynomina­ted independen­t animator David Schedler; and many others.

Several tournament­s are scheduled for this year's convention including Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Magic the Gathering, Yu-GiOh!, Pathfinder RPG and Dungeons & Dragons second edition. Awards will be given for best art submission and best costume. Both competitio­ns feature an adult and children's categories. Door prizes will also be given away.

A Monster Ball dance is slated for 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Portions of this year's proceeds will go to benefit Texarkana Autism Events & Resources. To donate directly, email Laurie Schneider at texarkanaa­utism@gmail.com.
