John B. Patterson, Sr.

John B. Patterson Sr. passed away at his home on October 8, 2015. He was born on December 12, 1926 to Martin and Placida Patterson and was the second of their six children. He grew up in Texarkana, Texas attending Sacred Heart Catholic School and Texas Senior High School. Upon graduation he joined the United States Navy to defend his country in World War Two and became a member of the Navy’s signal corps. He served aboard the USS Wilkes-Barre in the Pacific and was honorably discharged on July 20th, 1946. He attended North Texas State University and received his degree in business. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and had many life long friends that he enjoyed getting together with over the years.

Upon graduation he returned to Texarkana to join his father, Martin in the family business. He spent the next sixty-five years as co-owner of Patterson’s Camera Shop working with his father Martin, his brother Larry, his son Mark and his nephew Martin III. He was a lifetime member and past president of the Texarkana Downtown Rotary Club. John was an avid golfer and enjoyed many afternoons playing with his buddies at Texarkana Country Club. John and his wife, Mary, enjoyed their travels around the world after retirement.

Mr. Patterson is survived by a large family with a rich history in Texarkana. He is preceded in death by his father Martin Patterson and his mother Placida Patterson. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Patterson, three sons John Patterson and his wife Kati of Missoula, Mt., Jay Patterson and his wife Annabelle of Hot Springs, Ark., and Mark Patterson and his wife Julie of Texarkana, Tx. His grand children include Holland Burton, Wright Patterson, John Kiel Patterson, Sean Patterson, Mary Nell Patterson, Hannah Patterson, Conner Patterson and Maddi Ogle and four great grandchild­ren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters. Mary Pat Parker (Newman) of Cottonwood, Az., Larry Patterson (Sara) of Texarkana, Tx., Placida Young (Pete) of Texarkana, Tx., Martin Patterson Jr. (Nancy) of Texarkana, Tx. and Mollien Koenig (Richard) of Ponca City, Ok. There are also many nieces and nephews spread across the United States. The family would also like to recognize two long time business associates who John worked with for many years, Mary Lloyd and Carmen Seay. Also survived by a sister-in-law Georgia James of Austin Texas.

A rosary will be held at the Texarkana Funeral Home on Sunday October 11, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Saint Edwards Catholic Church in Texarkana Arkansas. The service will be held on Monday October 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will be immediatel­y following at the Holy Cross Cemetery located in Texarkana, Texas. Pallbearer­s include Martin Patterson III, Scott Burton, Wright Patterson, John Kiel Patterson, Sean Patterson, Dan Miskin and Conner Patterson.

Charitable contributi­ons may be made to the Domestic Violence Prevention Center, Wounded Warriors or to the charity of your choice.
