Maud drops first game of season, 47-13

TENAHA, Texas—Maud lost its first game of the season to Tenaha, 47-13.

Triston Carlow threw a 33 yard touchdown pass to Jake McDonald to put the Cardinals up 6-0 in the first quarter.

Onterio Thompson had 16 carries for 113 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers. Tenaha had a total of 300 yards on offense and caused three turnovers. Quarterbac­k CJ Horn went 6-of-10 for 123 yards and threw three touchdowns.

Maud had a total of 151 yards on offense. Cade Prince rushed for 58 yards and Jake McDonald had four receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown.

TRINITY’S GILLETTE FIRST

BRYANT, Texas—Senior Elizabeth Gillette of Trinity Christian finished in first place with at time of 18:49.84 and the girls finished in first place to win the team tittle out of 14 teams at the Bryant Hornet Invitation­al in Bryant Texas.

Syndey Cowgill finished in fifth place with a time of 21:17.98 and Anna Cree finished in sixth place with a time of 21:22.60.

Jakob Martin finished in 12 place for Trinity Christian boys with a time of 17:35.67 and Kendall Jones finished in 36th place with a time of 18:51.65.

TEXAS HIGH AND MS PLACE FIRST

ATLANTA, Texas—Texas High varsity girls finished in first place with 59 points and the Texas High varsity boys finished in first place with 42 points at the Atlanta Cross Country Meet.

Clarrisa Blalock finished in third place with a time of 13:34.8 for the Tigers. Megan Brown finished in 11th place with a time of 14:45.1 McKenzie Brown had a time of 14:46.9 and finished in 12 place.

Will Harrell finished in fist place for the Texas High varsity boys with a time of 17:40.7. Darren Mercer had a time of 19:23.2 and finished in seventh place.

Texas High junior varsity boys finished in first place with 17 points. Austin Flippen finished in first place with a time of 19:52.0. Johnathan Green finished is second place with a time of 20:17.0 and Joshua Mitchell finished in third place with a time of 20:50.9.

Christine Evans finished in first place for the Texas High junior varsity girls with a time of 15:01. The Tigers had 15 points.

Chantiuna Meadows had a time of 15:02.5 to finish in second place and Jenn Mitchell finished in third place with a time of 15:50.01.

Jordan Hatfield finished in fourth place for the Texas middle school girls with a time of 14:49.2 and Breaja James finished in fifth place with a time of 14:50.5. The middle school girls had 94 points.

Owen Likens finished in first place for the Texas middle school boys with a time of 11:29.

MAUD GIRLS FINISH SIXTH

OMAHA-NAPLES—Maud’s varsity girls team finished in sixth place at the Paul Pewitt Invitation­al.

Payton Green finished in 22nd place and Masey Hammonds finished in 28th place for the varsity girl Cardinals.

Josiah Barry finished in 38th place for the varsity boys.

Donna Autry finished in 16th place and Alysaa Hawley-Twite finished in 28th place for the junior high girls.

Ethan Jennings finished in 34th place for the junior high boys.

Maud will compete on October 14 at the Avery District 15-AA meet.

TEXAS HIGH TENNIS SPLITS

Texas High defeated Lindale 14-2. Ali Ritcher of Texas High defeated Alaska Raper 6-0, 6-1 in girls singles. Aubree Cramer defeated Zoe Santschi 6-1, 6-2 and Eliz Sanders defeated Sarah Johnson 6-2, 6-3.

In girls doubles Texas High swept Lindale. Ritcher/Cramer defeated Raper/Johnson 6-2, 6-4. Sanders/Sarah Rodgers defeated Stark/ Guiyermina Rodriguez 6-3, 6-4. Tirzah Bailey/ Braylee Hagan defeated Allison McClellan/Santschi 6-4, 6-4.

In boys singles Texas Highs Hutch Tidwell defeated Brian Beggs 2-6, 6-4, 10-4. Cullen Schoen defeated Aarom Gambrell 6-4, 6-1 and Alec Rommel defeated Cole Cantrell 6-3, 6-2.

Texas High won all three matches in boys doubles. Tidwell/Schoen defeated Beggs/Kylar Moore 6-0, 6-3 and Zack Moore/Norton defeated Preston Stark/Gambrell6-3, 7-6 (3). Rommel/ Kevin Jefferson defeated Cantrell/ Dawson Behee 6-1, 5-7, 10-8.

Texas High lost to Jesuit/Ursuline in a nail bitter 9-10.
