DeKalb wins, eyes postseason

DeKALB, Texas—DeKalb closed in on a playoff berth in District 15-3A, downing Redwater 25-22, 25-18, 25-15.

Ashley Tuppen had 10 points for the Lady Bears and Astonia Gray had 10 points, 15 kills and five blocks. Taylor Reed added 26 assists to the winning cause and Kim Russell had 17 digs.

The Redwater junior varsity won, 25-17, 25-14. Marlee Drake had six digs for Redwater.

Redwater’s 9th graders also won, 25-14, 25-15. Emily Cooke had eight points for DeKalb and Janique Thomas had five kills and five digs.

AVERY REMAINS PERFECT

AVERY, Texas—Avery stayed unbeaten in District 17-2A action, without giving up a set in district play, with a 25-11, 25-13, 27-25 win over Rivercrest.

Bailey Taylor served 17 winners, including three aces, and had eight digs for the Lady Bulldogs (30-6, 11-0). Kirsie Bishop had nine points, five aces, 10 kills and a block, Kaitlyn Kelsoe added seven kills, two blocks and 10 assists, and Cassidy Kelsoe swatted nine kills, had five assists and a block.

The Bulldogs won the JV match, 25-8, 25-16. Brenna Brown had 10 points, and Lexi Carson added eight.

Avery plays at Detroit Friday with a chance to wrap up the outright district championsh­ip.

QUEEN CITY RALLIES

QUEEN CITY, Texas—Queen City rallied against Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, 21-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-15, with Brianna Watkins smashing 27 kills for the Lady Bulldogs (28-7, 9-1).

Alyssa Wiley had 22 assists for QC, Shaelyn Goecke had nine kill and four blocks, Cori Lang added 14 digs, and Maci Stringer 18 assists.

Queen City won the junior varsity match, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18. Madison Jones had 12 kills and Colleen Kilgore added 11 kills. Emily Maxwell and Payton Beckham each had 13 assists.

JAMES BOWIE SWEEPS MAUD

MAUD, Texas—James Bowie took Maud in three sets Tuesday night, 25-21, 25-11, 25-21.

Mara Wilson led Maud with 7 service

points. Allie Liles had 6 points and three digs. Harley Dear led the Lady Cardinals with 6 assists.

In junior varsity play, Maud won, 25-17, 25-19

Marla Caudle led the Cardinals with 6 service points and Caitlynn Roe, Riley Murphy and Makenna Jones each had 5.

MOUNT VERNON TAKES PEWITT

NAPLES-OMAHA, Texas—Mount Vernon defeated Paul Pewitt in four sets, 25-15, 15-25, 25-17, 25-23.

For Pewitt, Ebbony Cobbins had 16 digs and eight kills, and Ladaysha Thomas had eight points, 11 kills, and two blocks.

Brelee Lawings had 11 digs and eight kills for the Lady Brahmas, while teammate Lydia Makowiecki had 13 points, four kills and two blocks.

Paul Pewitt’s Sallie Sartain made 12 digs, 24 assists and two kills. Cassidy Jessup had 12 digs and Ali Hawkins had 13 digs for the Lady Brahmas.

Mount Vernon was led by Savannah Wagner with 12 points, and Madison Whitfield served in 10 points.

Mount Vernon won the junior varsity match, 25-9, 25-10, but Pewitt won the 9th-grade match, 7-25, 25-16, 25-17.

ATLANTA ROLLS PAST PITTSBURG

ATLANTA, Texas—Cydnee Wood had a match-high 16 service points and made 11 digs to pace Atlanta over Pittsburg, 25-11, 25-7, 25-21, at Rabbit Gym.

Avery Trotter and Kwan Shepard had three aces each for the Lady Rabbs. Trotter also made 22 assists, while teammate TeShuna Sheppard put down 10 kills. Atlanta’s Amber Adams had four blocks.

NEW BOSTON OVER HOOKS

HOOKS, Texas—Jennifer McCord served in 11 points as New Boston swept Hooks, 25-23, 27-25, 25-22.

McKenzee Thomas had 10 kills, Hannah White made 23 assists, and Meredith Farris had 11 digs for the Lady Lions.

Madison Thomas helped out with eight kills and six digs for New Boston.

Hooks won the junior varsity A team match, 26-28, 30-28, 25-22. Katelyn Thompson had seven service points for the Lions.

Britney Hill led New Boston with six service points, but the Lady Hornets’ junior varsity B team won, 25-10, 25-10.
