Four teams have won two consecutiv­e in James Bowie Classic

SIMMS, Texas—DeKalb and Bloomburg boys, and the Redwater and McLeod girls have won two straight games in the James Bowie Classic with a victory each Friday at Pirates Gym.

DeKalb’s boys downed Union Grove, 74-57, and Bloomburg edged past Cushing, 43-39.

McLeod’s girls breezed past Avinger, 69-27, and Redwater did the same to Bloomburg, 63-16.

In other girls games, Hooks defeated Union Hill, 40-29, and James Bowie downed Union Hill, 39-15.

In boys action, Redwater defeated Union Hill, 54-40, and Union Grove beat James Bowie, 54-32.

In girls action today, it’s Redwater vs McLeod at 9 a.m., Bloomburg vs. Hooks at noon, Avinger vs. Union Hill at 3 p.m., and James Bowie vs. Redwater at 6 p.m.

In boys games, the schedule matches Redwater vs. Bloomburg at 10:30 a.m., DeKalb vs. Union Hill at 1:30 p.m., Cushing vs. Union Grove at 4:30, and James Bowie vs. Redwater at 7:30.

Boys DEKALB 74, UNION GROVE 57

DeKalb (6-1) led by only, 40-35, early in the third quarter before Gunner Baxley canned four 3-point goals for a 52-35 advantage.

Baxley drilled two more treys in the third period for a gamehigh nine as the Bears took a commanding 62-42 lead into the final period.

Baxley had plenty of help from Jovan Forte, who scored 25 points.

Austin Owens kept Union Grove (6-2) in the game with 29 points, and Brennon Daughtry added 12.

REDWATER 54, UNION HILL 40

The Dragons led by only one, 34-33, at the end of the third quarter, but Redwater lit up the scoreboard with 20 points in the final period.

Connor McKenor paced Redwater with 19 points, and Brandon Brooks added 15.

Omar Aguillon and Noah Batts led UH with 14 and 12 points, respective­ly.

BLOOMBURG 43, CUSHING 39

The Wildcats built up a big 23-9 first-half advantage, but then had to fight off a late challenge by Cushing.

Justin Heard led Bloomburg (6-3) with 21 points, and Nathan McGill added 13.

Braden Austin had 15 points and Matlock 11 points to lead the Bearkats (5-4).

UNION GROVE 54, JAMES BOWIE 32

The Pirates’ Bailey Obenoskey knocked down 20 points, but Union Grove had much better balanced scoring to easily down James Bowie.

The difference in this game was that Union Grove outscored James Bowie, 33-9, in the middle two periods.

Austin Owens paced the winners with 18 points, and Parker Thornton added 11.

Girls REDWATER 63, BLOOMBURG 16

With a big first half, Redwater breezed to victory.

The Lady Dragons outscored Bloomburg, 35-9, in the first two quarters.

Karlee Carmony and Katy Worrell paced Redwater with 18 and 15 points, respective­ly, as 10 players scored for the Dragons.

McLeod 69, Avinger 27 After two previous wins in the tournament, Avinger was no match for the Lady Longhorns.

McLeod (9-1) jumped out to a huge 39-10 halftime lead and continued to pull away.

Tessa Glenn paced McLeod with 17 points and Kyndal Shepard added 16.

Iyona Parker and Brooke Kirkpatric­k led the Lady Indians with nine points each.

HOOKS 40, UNION HILL 29

The Lady Hornets broke open a close game, 13-11, at halftime, with a big third quarter, outscoring Union Hill, 18-7.

Calyn Kyles paced Hooks with 14 points that included three 3-point shots.

JAMES BOWIE 39, UNION HILL 15

The Lady Pirates took an 11-2 first-quarter lead, and stretched their advantage to 26-6 at halftime for the easy win.

Andia Addy led James Bowie with nine points, and Kaylynn Mowery tallied eight for Union Hill.
