AVERY IN TITLE GAME

PATTONVILL­E, Texas—Avery knocked off Whitewrigh­t, 58-52, in overtime Friday to advance to the championsh­ip game of the Prairiland Tournament.

The Bulldogs (6-1) will face Mount Vernon in today’s title matchup at 6 p.m.

Gaze Berry hit four 3-pointers and had 18 point for Avery, which outscored the Tigers 10-4 in Friday’s extra period. Charles Kelly added 17 and Allen Jackson 14 for the Bulldogs.

Johnny Adan topped Whitewrigh­t with 17 points and Jeff Dodson chipped in with 16.

MCLEOD WINS ONE, LOSES TWO

CUMBY, Texas–McLeod won one game and then dropped a pair of close decisions Friday in the Miller Grove Tournament.

The Longhorns (4-5) rode JR Smith’s 16-point performanc­e to beat Campbell, 36-34, in the opener before dropping games to Wolfe City, 69-67, and Yantis, 48-42.

The Horns’ Colby Smith swished three 3-pointers against Campbell. Entering the fourth quarter McLeod was up 26-24. Campbell outscored McLeod in the fourth quarter 9-8, but were unable to pull out the win.

Dylan Austin had 10 points and hit two 3-pointers for Campbell.

Against Wolfe City, Colby Smith hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points for the Longhorns. JR Smith had 22 points as well.

Wolfe City hit a total of 17 3-pointers in the game. Tyler Brummett led the Wolves with 21 points and scored five 3-pointers.

At halftime McLeod was down 33-31.

In the third game against Yantis, Bradley Lambeth and JR Smith led the Horns with nine points each. Bob Cerretani had 14 and Sean Glenn 11 for the victors.

NEW BOSTON FALLS

NEW BOSTON, Texas—Dantrey Copeland drilled one 3-pointer and had a game-high 18 points as New Boston lost to Daingerfie­ld, 63-48.

Ricky Lee scored 16 points and Reggie Jeter added 13 points for the Tigers.

The Lions are 0-3 on the season.

Girls Basketball

DRAGONS WIN

GENOA CENTRAL, Ark.—Callie Beckam scored a team-high 15 points as Genoa Central won the battle of the unbeatens against Foreman 46-42.

Eden Crow had a double-double with with 11 points and ten rebounds for the Lady Dragons.

Kiara Scholas had a game-high 29 points for the Lady Gators.

The Dragons hit six consecutiv­e freethrows to seal the deal.

The Dragons are 7-0.

Subvarsity Girls basketball

GENOA JV TOP FOREMAN

GENOA CENTRAL, Ark.—Laykin Smallwood scored 16 points and Genoa Central junior high team defeated Foreman’s junior high team 30-12.

Leslie Bearden led the Lady Gators with five points.

The Dragons improve to 7-0.
