BASEBALL

Area baseball players have a chance to try out for the Tampa Bay Rays in an open camp on June 16 at the Hallsville High School baseball field. Players will be evaluated on running, throwing, fielding and hitting. Players ages 16-21 are eligible. The camp is under the direction of Rays’ scouts Pat Murphy and Scott Mitchell. Registrati­on begins at 9 a.m., with workouts to follow. The Rays will provided all equipment with the exception of glove, spikes and catchers gear. Contact Scott Mitchell at 903-4248448.

GOLF

Jim Shivley, Tim Martin, Mike Norwood, Jeff Pritchett and Levie Saxby placed first in the first flight at Northridge Country Club’s Clay Eichler Golf and Guitars charity golf tournament on Saturday. Howard Glick, Stan Griffin, Mark Gabbie, Russell Mayo, Michael Martin and John Martin were first in the second flight.

The ArkLaTex junior golf tour will kick off its season on June 6 at Alpine Golf Course in Longview. The tour, under the direction of Dick Williams, will hold 10 events this summer in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. The ArkLaTex Junior Golf Tour is designed for boys and girls ages 7 through college eligibilit­y age. Juniors must be at the golf course and checked in before 7:30 a.m. Phone-in entries at 903-663-6305 or 903-235-8585 are preferred, and walk-up entries are welcome.

VOLLEYBALL

There is a 2016 junior high volleyball camp from 5-8 p.m. June 8-9 at DeKalb High School. Fee is $50 and camp is for incoming 6th-8th graders. Money order and cash accepted, make money order payable to Dawn Stewart.
