DALLAS—The rock-wielding man shot by a police officer outside Dallas Love Field last week has been released from the hospital and is in jail.

Shawn Diamond, 29, was booked into the Dallas County Jail on Monday afternoon. He is being held on charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and assault—family violence.

Video of Friday’s incident showed the officer firing nine shots. He tells a man, later identified as Diamond, to “get down” and “stay down,” as passers-by scream.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said Friday that Diamond had recently left his home in Maryland and driven to his ex-girlfriend’s Dallas-area home.

On June 7 he was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in Carrollton after police said he drove his car into trees in a median.

His ex-girlfriend drove him to Love Field on Friday so he could fly back to Maryland, but she told police he got upset and struck her on the way there.

A Dallas officer stationed at Love Field was called to respond to a domestic disturbance outside the baggage-claim area around noon.

Surveillance footage from the airport shows the pair unloading luggage from the car. Diamond then takes a traffic cone and smashes the car’s rear windshield before throwing large landscaping stones through its windows.

When the officer tried to intervene, “he was rushed by the gentleman with the rock,” Assistant Chief Randall Blankenbaker said Friday. When the officer moved away, Diamond “came toward him again, so he discharged his weapon a number of times.”

According to Brown, witnesses said that Diamond told the officer, “You are going to have to shoot me.”

After he fell to the ground wounded, Diamond again attempted to rush at the officer, and the officer shot at him again.
