Local Master Gardeners, 4-H to offer programs in August, September

The Red Dirt Master Gardeners and 4-H will offer educationa­l programs for adults and children at the Gateway Farmers Market in August and September.

The hours will be from 7 a.m. to noon.

The Master Gardeners will be taking soil samples each Saturday in August and September for analysis.

“Bring a pint of soil for each sample you would like to have analyzed in a plastic baggie or clean jar to the Master Gardener booth. There will also be educationa­l gardening materials available as well as Master Gardeners to help with any gardening questions you might have,” said Samantha Kroll, Miller County extension agent.

“The children’s programs are being offered by Miller County 4-H and will help the youth enjoy their time at the market while the adults shop for the freshest local produce, baked goods, herbs, and flowers,” Kroll said. The schedule includes:

Aug. 6—“Soil Samples for Your Fall Garden.”

Aug. 13—“Ask Us About Master Gardeners” and “Soil Samples for Your Fall Garden”

Aug. 20—“Kids Corner with the Master Gardeners” and “Soil Samples for Your Fall Garden”

Aug. 27—“Cool Container Gardening for Kids” and “Soil Samples for Your Fall Garden”

Sept. 3—“Fall Preparatio­ns for Gardens, Flower Beds, and Yards” “Soil Samples for Your Fall Garden”

Sept. 10—No Program— Four States Fair Parade

Sept. 17—“Herbs Kitchen for Kids” and “Soil Samples for Your Fall Garden”

Sept. 24—“Fall Decorating with the Master Gardeners” and “Soil Samples for Your Fall Garden.”

Gateway Farmers Market is at East Ninth Street and Jefferson Avenue in Texarkana, Ark.
