Cheers & Jeers

JEERS: To all those small and large companies and their employees that keep suggesting that we, Seniors, utilize a smart phone! And, to ask our grandchildren to assist us. We have saved and can afford to shop without a phone and certainly would appreciate someone to appreciate our “Spending Power.” Too many other stores and services to select from and more popping up. Not everyone wants to be bothered with one of those phones: just let us have out plain emergency phones.—B.B., Texarkana, Texas

CHEERS: To the Gazette editorial page for balanced reporting on the political scene. Jeers to the staff of the Gazette that assembles the various political articles daily, for example, Gazette 8-16-16 page 10B “Trump’s Plan Raise Many Unanswered Questions”, “Trump Unqualified”, “Giuliani Forgets 9/11”. These articles take up 85% of page. Nothing negative on Clinton.—M.V., Texarkana, Texas.

JEERS: To Tim Dahlberg (AP), only for stopping too soon. Ryan Lochte did not wound the national pride of Brazil only. (Seems to me the U.S. had a real dog in the hunt.) Otherwise, Cheers to the nth. JEERS: To the low life who stole my checks out of my mailbox Monday, Aug. 15th. Luckily I was able to close my account and cancel the checks before you could steal our money. A neighbor was able to identify your vehicle because you were stopping at all boxes and he knew you were not our regular mail carrier. I hope the authorities catch up with you. My wife and I are both retired and live on a fixed income and can’t afford this mess. A detailed report has been given to the sheriffs office and the postal onspector. Just keep doing what your doing and hopefully you will be caught. Get a job!—R.M., Texarkana, Ark.
