State Bank donates $50K to establish scholarship program at A&M-Texarkana
State Bank has donated $50,000 to Texas A&M University-Texarkana to establish the State Bank Scholars scholarship program.
Two $5,000 scholarships will be funded each year and given to recent high school graduates with a minimum ACT score of 22 or a minimum 3.4 GPA. Recipients must major in business and maintain a 3.0 GPA with successful completion of a minimum of 24 credit hours per year.
Joe Nichols, State Bank’s Chairman and CEO, said he is excited that A&M-Texarkana and the Texas A&M University System are committed to growing the local campus student population.
“We have a number of employees including Chris Lannom, our Texarkana market president, who graduated from A&M-Texarkana,” Nichols said in a statement. “They are all well-educated and outstanding community bankers.”
A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Emily Cutrer said the university was excited and honored to receive the scholarship donation.
“Privately funded scholarships are the key to maintaining a margin of excellence in attracting and retaining students,” she said. “Expanding student scholarships is among our top priorities as an institution.”
State Bank, a $186 million community bank, is locally owned with roots in DeKalb. Other locations include Clarksville and Texarkana.
